Below is a letter written to John Huggins by his wife Ericka prior to his assassination

my jon,
sometimes i feel as though our -- my -- your purpose here was to do exactly what we are doing now, trying to end oppression and murder of black people -- of all oppressed people. i feel that we as ericka and jon were destined from birth to die for the liberation of -- the shackled and chained, our child was conceived out of revolutionary love and so shall it be born.
i only wish that you and i will live to see it love and understand the people, the oppression, our world and the decadence that for so many years we have lived with, it sounds selfish to want to live any longer than we are supposed to but i want to watch this child's mind grow as strong as its body must.
i think that i have come to a conclusion through objective analysis, that is i love you -- with all the terrible and draining consequences that are part of loving a revolutionary, but you are aware of those beautiful things that are every day expressed in my face, so i thank you -- for if i am strong you have made me strong -- if i am patient -- you have made me patient, if i am headed in the right political direction -- you have led me toward the development of the correct ideology.
if you do not return tonight -- or tomorrow night -- i will know that it is because you are laying the foundation so that our small and helpless little man will be able to fight one day a battle supported by the people.
i am hoping that however far we may stray from each other physically, our minds will be one and you will carry me with you wherever you go, even after death. i will always love you for your strength.

INCIDENT AT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL
Wednesday, February 26, Lauryn Williams returned to her old alma mater, Abraham
Lincoln High School. She had just graduated from that school in January. Within
an hour and a half after she arrived, she was downtown in jail on trumped up
charges of trespassing. From this one illegal charge, the pig power structure
along with a white racist teacher and a strong nigger, running dog who claims
he was just trying to be black have now charged this courageous young sister
with assault on a murderous pig, assault on a racist teacher, and resisting
arrest.
The Black Panther Party realizes that the ridiculous charges brought against this sister was but another attempt by the decadent racist pig city government to remove a responsible, dedicated, active Party member from the streets. We are also aware that it was just another trick to make the victim seem like the aggressor. But to pig Alioto, to pig Cahill, to pig Jenkins, Alito's chief lacky in the high school system, to the other dog H. N. Strong, who patrols is the high school at Lincoln, to pig Justice, we say to all of your from all of us, fuck you; we're going to take our case to the people.
This dedicated sister went through the procedure of obtaining a pass to be on the school ground. She talked with and received permission in the form of a written pass from the Assistant principal Mr. Storkley. Lauryn's purpose for going back to Lincoln High School was to turn back over to the B.S.U. board funds raised at a cup cake sale. She also was going back to check whether or not the B.S.U. was still functioning within the guidelines of the 10 Point Platform of the Black Student Unions. The third reason for her visitation was to discuss the Black Panther Party's Breakfast for Children Program with the teachers and sponsors at Lincoln and with the B.S.U. steering committee. The intention was to mobilize the students and their sponsors around the breakfast program which started March 10th at Sacred Heart Church on Fell Street in San Francisco.
During the time Lauryn was trying to locate the sponsors and the B.S.U. members, fights broke out in the cafeteria between the black students and the white students. The white students had withdrawn from the cafeteria with the black students on their case. Soon as the racist gestapo tac pigs realized that the black students could overcome the odds and that they had turned the table on the racist white students that instigated the riot, they started moving on the black youths. Lauryn, having observed what was taking place, asked questions of the racist teacher Coleman, "Why were the pigs chasing beating only black students?" The only answer she received was that she'd better leave, immediately. Racist Coleman then tried to push the sister out into the crowd of angry white students. Like a Panther, she resisted Coleman's insane attempt to offer her up as a sacrificial lamb. Two brothers helped Lauryn get away from the area and to the main office. Once inside agent, Shoe Polish Mouth, Strong along with 2 plainclothesmen forced her out of the building and outside. After she had received permission from the assistant principal, Mr. Strokely. She called for a brother to come pick her up. Once outside 8 funcky pigs attacked, beat, and handcuffed her behind her back. Downtown she was not advised of her so called constitutional rights. After being in an isolation cell for sometime Lauryn was searched by a filthy pig. Later the cuffs were taken off. A short time after that officers for justice, a black political organization concerned with the rights of Black and Third World people, helped free Lauryn on O.R.
We say this to the Pig power structure: The people know this racist country has a history of unjustly imprisoning and murdering black people. The people are hip to the false cries of Pig Alliotos gestopo Tac squad. That they, 8 strong were attacked. People are hip to the racist teachers that attempt to destroy the minds and bodies of black youths. The people will raise up like our Minister of Defense says "Like a mighty hurricane that will sweep all the corrupt officials, avaricious businessmen, murderous pigs, and all their running dogs into their graves and tip the scales of Pig justice, and Pig law and order to the side of the people."
We shall triumph without a doubt. All Power to the People. Panther Power to the Vanguard and long live our Minister of Defense.

KNOW YOUR PIGS
For many years before the Black Panther Party came into existence, and were
taught by our Minister of Defense, Huey P. Newton and our Chairman Bobby Seale,
black people were totally unaware that the pigs do not have the right to enter
people's houses without the person's permission or a search warrant. I said
pigs, by pigs I am referring to the establishments so called "law enforcer,
policeman" and anyone connected with them that are working against the
peoples' revolutionary struggle, reactionaries of all kinds. The main objective
for writing this article is to inform others as to what's happening in the city
projects, or housing authority.
Over here in Oakland, certain employees for the Housing Authority of the City of Oakland have the "authority" to enter a tenant's apartment and supposedly fix plumbing, wiring etc. The employees will come into your house with a key of their own, with or without your permission. For instance you can be upstairs taking a bath and although you didn't let the worker in, he took his own key and let himself in. How do you know what he's doing while you're upstairs or away from your home? What appears to be a ransacking of your house, going through your drawers and closets may just be a guise for planting listening devices (bugging or planting something in your house, such as guns with filed off serial numbers, sawed off shotguns (as in the case of Chairman Bobby Seale) or even searching your house for guns and other articles of self-defense.
In Oakland, the manager and others are entering city housing project apartments, supposedly investigating conditions that need repairing in the future. These people are just another variety of pig, ununiformed. Just like the St. Valentine Day Massacre, where gangsters dressed up as policemen; posed as pigs and massacred many members of a rival gang. Beware of who you let into your house. Just like you can't say that just because a person is black he's your brother or sister or a revolutionary; you cannot say that a plumber is a plumber just because he has on overalls and plumbing tools. Be cautious, stop these agents from making these illegal and unwarranted searches in your home. Arm yourself and keep the trespassers out.

“I smell a Pig…”: HARLEM FIVE FRAMED
On May 16, 1968 at 5:00 p.m. members of the Harlem Youth Federation called a
meeting at 2177 fifth Avenue. The Lincoln projects had been the home of Hannibal
Thomas, chairman of the organization, for eighteen years. The house was filled
with many people including children. The group was making plans to rent a bus
to attend the Solidarity March for the Poor People's campaign June 19, 1968.
Suddenly fifteen Negro dog detectives forced their way into the apartment of
Mr. Thomas and created an atmosphere of fear, bewilderment, and chaos. Children
were crying and crouched behind their parents at the sight of drawn guns. These
running dogs confiscated literature, personal property as well as personal money
of Mrs. Thomas, Hannibal's mother. She has yet to receive the money stolen from
her. They also disrespected the people by using extremely abusive language.
I might add that these agents of oppression went through their act without a
search warrant.
Can you imagine the effect this had on the children, as well as the adults? Seven black men, Hannibal Thomas, 22, Wallace Marks, 24, Lloyd Butler, 19, Preston Lay, Jr. 24, John Garrett, 24, Timothy Hubbard, Wayne Cunningham, were removed from this setting. John Garrett, was not even a member of the federation, and Timothy Hubard and Wayne Cunningham were later identified as agent informers for BOSS (Bureau of Special Services), New York's answer to the "Mod Squad". These pigs had infiltrated the Federation. The absurd charges are: Conspiracy to off a pig a week. Robbery of Kings- bridge armory and Burglary of a subway check cashing place.
Dig the intrigue. Harlem Youth Federation was formed to remove dope from the Black community, and to raise the political consciousness of community youth. They took part in stopping the exploitation and expansion tactics of Columbia University. They were making obvious gains and winning the support of the young and old alike. What's the key to this set up? - DOPE. When you try to stop the exploiter by means of cutting off his biggest source of blood money, you definitely have to go. So pig Lindsay right down to the local mafia gip department CONSPIRED to put an end to this courageous group trying to free the minds and souls of Black folks.
"How to destroy and discredit these men?", they oinked.
"We'll use one of our many uncles, we got them all ages, shapes and shades of brown." So they planted two young mod squad pigletts from BOSS. It was these pigletts, Cunningham and Hubbard, who proposed the robbery of the armory. It was Cunningham and Hubbard who wanted the group to rob the check cashing place. And it was Cunningham and Hubbard who said lets off a pig a week.
The leadership opposed these suggestions, already triggered by a hint of infiltrators and distrust for these provocateurs. Seeing that they could not trap the Federation, they had to move fast to crush them quickly and hopefully - quietly. So these ideas, which were mouthed by the pigs themselves, were used as hearsay evidence against the Harlem 5.
During the period of capture the obvious things happened as is done to all black prisoners. Bail is exhorbitant; they were kept incommunicado for 10 hrs. after the initial arrest, and the people left in the arrest apartment were held prisoners for 2 hrs. they were not allowed to leave.
People of the Black community please look around you. What's happening? Why are all the people who are fighting for the freedom of the Black colony disappearing? Why?- because you're allowing it. The FBI, CIA, and BOSS are not employing new methods, it's the same old shit! Investigate and infiltrate, entrap and liquidate. It's clear what your job must be - off the provocateurs. After we deal with our own Negro traitors who are turning us over to the enemy, more than half the job will be completed. Beware of these endorsed spokesmen and Negro traitors. Start seeking out information on all political prisoners and why they are in jail. Armed struggle is going on right here and now and you are in the midst of the battle.
Oh by the way we've learned that Negro slobs, Timothy Hubbard and Wayne Cunningham have received a promotion in BOSS (another porkchop) for a job well done.

MILITARY PIG
To whom it may concern,
I'm a 23 year old soul man. I'm presently serving my last six months of a four year enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps.
My name is Vernon D. Chatman. My home is New Orleans, Louisiana. My parents are Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Chatman, Sr.
The reason I'm writing to the Black Panther Party is because I have a problem, and I think the Panthers are the best and the only ones who can help me.
I would like to become a member of the Black Panther Party. I would like to know the qualifications, although as a black man with no taste at all for whitey, I think I can qualify.
Now for the problem I'm having: On the 27th of February, 1969, I was getting off a bus at the base bus station, Camp Lejeune, N.C. As I stepped from the bus, I was approached by 5 Military Policeman. They asked me for my identification card and my liberty card. I then related to them that I had lost my ID, and liberty off base wasn't my intentions at the time. So they backed me against the bus by poking me in the chest and stomach with their night stick. By the time I was against the bus, it was ready to move again. So I was poked from the bus to the Military Police truck. At this time one of the MP's read to me my rights (Art. 31 UCMJ) He told me that I had the right to remain silent, and anything I said could be used against me in a cout of law.
I was aware of my right, so I told him this. He got sort of mad. I ignored him by whistling. At this time he was furious. So he "and the rest of his crew" started to lead me to the back of the truck. I swung half way around to say something, and couple of them started to raise their sticks as though to hit me. So I broke away and ran. Three shots were fired at me. After they apprehended me, I was handcuffed. The handcuffs were put on in a wrist cutting position.
After being brought to the Military police headquarters, I was then turned over to my outfit. Five charges were brought against me. They are follows:
1. No identification card
2. No liberty card
3. Unauthorized absence from outfit
4. Disrespect to a military policeman
5. Breaking military apprehension (twice)
Ever since this occurred, I've been in a restricted status. I'm now awaiting a special court martial. I am in need of a good lawyer. I can't afford one because I take care of my mother who's heart is bad. That's why I'm making for the help of my true brothers and sisters, the Black Panther Party. If the Panthers can't help me, then no one can. But I would like some "advice", ONLY IF the Panthers can't help.
The Military Policemen who apprehended me, all of them, were supposed to be a part of me. Mainly because we are all black and fighting the same problem. But whitey gave them a little bit of power, and they are using it to destroy us. Their own people, the ones who care about them.
I'll be waiting for a reply. And I'm praying that the B.P.P. can be of some help to me. I'm depending on all of you.

TOWARD A NEW UNIONISM
This two-part article will include interviews I had with 2 union brothers on
a recent trip to Detrott, Michigan. Today, you will meet Mr. John Watson, Editor
of the now financially-bankrupt revolutionary paper, INNER-CITY VOICE, currently
the much harrassed Chief-Editor of THE SOUTH END, newspaper of Wayne State University
and member of the Central Committee of the League of revolutionary Black Workers.
Part II will deal with Mr. Mike Hamlin, spokesman for the League and a leader in the real Dodge Rebellion, DODGE REVOLUTIONARY UNION MOVEMENT. Mr. Hamlin and I discussed the basic theory for forming revolutionary caucuses in other unions throughout the nation and he makes clear the need for this in his informative discussion.
KENNY: What do you believe as far as what you're doing and what you want to do, and how you go about doing it?
JOHN: Okay, we have the conception that the working - black working class is the fundamental class in the black community and the most powerful element of the community in struggle against the man, because of the fact that black workers are located at the point of production in most essential industries in the country's economy. We have a long history of involvement in Black movements, we have studied and have had a lot of experience and practice which has led us to this conclusion. We believe that the various elements in the Black community which must be organized in the struggle for liberation. First of all, of course, you know there is a student movement, then there is a movement in the community and thirdly there is a movement of workers. Out of the three we believe that the movement of the black workers is the most important and the most essential, for a number of reasons which I really can't get into 'em all. But I'd like to say just a couple of things that are important - extremely important along these lines. First of all, Black workers are found in large numbers in the hardest district jobs in the economy in basic industry, and the jobs which most Black workers have found are jobs which are essential to the productive growth of the country - that is whereas amongst white people you have a huge middle class which is involved in shuffling around papers and planning and also some other bullshit. You got Black people who are basically throwing steel on assembly lines and although the large segments of the white population they could be removed from the element of production which they assume you can't make cars and can't make steel without the basic cat on the line. There's another factor to reorganization of Black workers too, this is that Black workers can be organized once you get the key to organizing they can be organized much more readily and to a much stronger unity than is normally the case in the community. This is because in a factory you may have 5, 6, 7, 8 thousand Black people all under the same hammer 8 to 10 hours a day 5, 6, 7 days a week and it's not like you know it is out in the community where when you go from house to house and from apartment to apartment you gonna find people who have problems, although the problems all relate to the system there are different specific problems that is, you know, cats may have you know, owe money to different people, cats, you know, associated in different areas and they get in trouble with the police, or you know, what have you, within the community, it's more of a scattered, unhomologist sort of situation, whereas in a factory, everybody in there is being messed over, by the same man at the same time, and when you mobilize the people just say in one automobile factory in Detroit, you are mobilizing thousands of people at the same time.
KENNY: Do you have any thoughts about Huey P. Newton, the Minister of Defense of the Black Panther Party?
JOHN: We've known about the Black Panther Party here for the last 2 years and we've been quite significantly impressed by it's organization, its development, and its politics, that is, theoretical understanding of the struggle. We feel that Huey P. Newton, expecially is one of the foremost leaders of Black people in this country, we feel that he's a leader who has managed to go beyond the state of selling wolf tickets which, you know, brothers get up and talk about, you know, the man is this, and we gonna do this, and we're such big bad, black people, and so on and so forth. He's demonstrated concretely he is willing to lock, will lock, can lock and has locked and at the same time through his readings, from his writings and from speeches we have heard of, he has also indicated that he is one of the most sophisticated Black revolutionary theoreticians in the country.
KENNY: Now another question I would like to ask is did your paper, the paper you're the former editor of, the inner City Voice, and the South End paper that you're the editor of now, did they support Huey's belief during his trial or whenever it was that these things transpired what was your stand at that time?
JOHN: Our stand from the beginning when we first heard about Huey P. Newton was uncritical - was absolute uncritical support when we first heard - well we had heard about the Black Panther previously in terms of various actions which they had out on the West Coast, but it wasn't until the incident in which the cop was killed that we really became actually aware of the Panthers and what they were doing - at that time the Panthers were relatively unknown in this area and the Inner City Voice was one of the main organs through which Black people learned about the Black Panther Party, its program the case of Huey P. Newton, the alliance - coalition - I don't know the proper words to use, but with the Peace and Freedom Party and so on and so forth. The Inner City Voice ran into financial problems at that time. We're attempting to get it back together now, we should be publishing within the next couple of months or so. In the meantime, we managed to take over the administration of the South End newspaper at Wayne State University and one of the first things which we did when we came into power last September was to begin to run articles on Huey Newton and the trial, in fact one of the papers that was published - it's a daily paper that we published last September or October carried the headline "FREE HUEY" and a story about the trial and everything and it was one of the papers which dropped the man down on our back here, they thought it was completely outrageous that we should have such a thing on the front page but of course we ignored them and we continue to land the greatest support that we can through our publications.
KENNY: Another question is what are you working with the Detroit Chapter of the Black Panther Party here, and what is your understanding that you have with the brothers in this chapter?
JOHN: We have a fraternal relationship with the Black Panther Party in Detroit. We feel the Black Panther Party and Drum should work together with all cases because we're both revolutionary organizations, Drum being basically an organization which is based on the masses in the plants, the Black Panther Party being - what we hoped it would become the revolutionary vanguard party which can lead those masses successfully to political and military victory. As far as the relationship with the Party is concerned now the Party is a new party which is still getting itself together so to speak. We have many members of the Black Panthers there is an overlapping membership between the League of Revolutionary Black Workers and the Black Panthers. There are Black Panthers who sit on the central committee of the League, so obviously it is our intention to see that the Party and Drum will be able to work hand-in-hand in moving towards Black Liberation. the League of Revolutionary Black Workers -- I guess as you understand is a federation of a number of different organizations depending upon black workers are working and where they are located. One of the organizations which we formed is called Nerum (Detroit News Revolutionary Union Movement) and it's an organization of Black workers at the Detroit News, one of the daily newspapers here, which is a fascist racist newspaper. We had a strong group of brothers there and when we moved to organize Nerum we had been talking to a small group of white kids there, some of whom were members of S.D.S. about organizing white workers. However, what we found out was that as soon as we began to organize Nerum independently of white workers, you know, of course with the hope that eventually there would be a white radical group in the plant and we would be able to form a coalition against the company or something along those lines. But these guys - it seems that the political consciousness and awareness is so low that when they found out that we were organizing Nerum as an all black organization, they got personally offended and quite upset, you know quite up-tight, about the situation and it just demonstrated that even in that kind of situation it is very difficult for us to count on the white radicals to do anything right. We had acted with them in complete good faith there was no hoistility between the two groups, that is the Black group and the white radicals down at the News. But when we began to act because of a historical and objective necessity of racism in America they rejected it simply because of their own individual needs. So it seems to me at least that the white left around here really needs a lot of education. Right now what they want is for black people to wipe their nose, or wipe their ass and pat them on the shoulder and tell them we like them and then they think that "wow everything is really gonna be alright," you know, "that we're going to have a new lovely society." But we're not interested in forming any kind of intergrated groups which people can feed off of each other's egos, we're interested in making basic fundamental changes in the country and that alone seems to be the big contradiction between us and the white left.
KENNY: Brother John would you like to comment on the Chairman of the Black Panther Party, Bobby Seal and the love that he has for the Minister of Defense, Huey P. Newton. I'm quite sure you have read some of his teachings and some of his statements that he has made in his travels around the country, would you like to comment on this?
JOHN: Yes, I think that the kind of support, undaunted support which Bobby Seal has given Huey P. Newton is a lesson which all black people who aspire to be revolutionaries in this country should learn. There have been too many instances in the struggle in which brothers have dedicated and sacraficed themselves and placed their own personal lives in jepardy, been thrown into jail, been shot and killed by the man in which the brothers with whom they were associated with, completely forgot about their problems. I think that it is the duty and role of a revolutionary to support all his revolutionary brothers, and I think that when a brother is busted or when a brother is being harrased or intimidated by the power structure that we have to recognize that if we're going to build a strong revolutionary movement that we have to stand behind these brothers and do all that we can to defend them. I think that the case of Huey P. Newton and the actions of the Black Panther Party is probably the greatest example to black people throughout the country to follow along these lines.

OPEN LETTER TO BLACK PANTHER PARTY
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
We present this statement in the BLACK PANTHER so that all serious revolutionaries in our area of responsibility, of whatever nationality or race, may know our attitude toward the BPP, and join with us for more effective struggle for the glorious common goal of POWER TO THE PEOPLE.
It is our considered and passionate conviction that Bro. Huey P. Newton is the pre-eminent revolutionary Marxist-Leninist thinker, propagandist and organizer in the country, and that the Black Panther Party, led by the colid cadres trained and inspired by Bro. Huey, is the most advanced and strongest section of the proletarian vanguard in America.
The vitally important work in organizing and encouraging Black Student Unions, the serious efforts to overcome simple-minded male-supremacy attitudes, and the consistent policy of openmindedness on the question of alliances -- these are achievements of the BPP which entitle it to the respect and deference of all proletarian revolutionaries, of all those who are not afraid to be called reds or communists.
Now the formation of the Black Panther Caucuses in the trade-union movement, combining revolutionary audacity with a serious and responsible attitude toward the organizations and needs of all the workers, has definitely placed the Party at the vital center of the future revolutionary party and liberation movement of ALL oppressed Americans, and at the same time has brought that future within our united grasp in the next period.
All our efforts are dedicated to following the example of the BPP in every field of political work, in preparation for that great future.

LESSON FOR THE WHITE LEFT
BERKELEY, CALIF. (LNS) -- Tom Hayden gave the following speech in Berkeley,
Feb. 18, at a rally sponsored by the Black Panthers to raise money for the Cleaver-Newton
Defense Fund. The occasion was Huey Newton's birthday. Hayden, the only white
speaker on the program, spoke following a 40-minute film interview with Huey
Newton in jail.
Melvin Newton asked me to speak after the film about Huey and give my impressions. It is very difficult.
Look at what's happened to Panther leadership this year: Bobby Hutton dead, Huey held in prison, Eldridge underground, George Murray going to jail, important cadre murdered or jailed in several parts of the country. It was even worse for the Vietnamese resistance. During the years 1954-58, when they followed a peaceful and legal line in fighting Diem, 31 of the 32 members of their Salgon Central Committee were assassinated.
The point, of course, is that the United States is no exception to the rule that, in making history, in creating revolution, we cannot avoid repression and terror, cannot avoid the highest kinds of personal sacrifice. Those who stand in the front lines of our long march, our revolutionary pioneers and explorers, know this -- they are exposing body and soul willingly and, inevitably they will be the targets of counter-revolutionary violence. This power structure we live under believes it can frighten and stop the people by stopping their leaders. It is an arrogant power structure which, from its own experience at manipulation, thinks that the revolutionary people are sheep being driven by a clever few. We know that true leaders -- those who give people confidence in themselves, who have experience to share with the people, who set a revolutionary example for the people -- are precious and unreplaceable. There was only one Che and, as Eldridge said when I first met him, there is only one Huey P. Newton.
But we also know that a genuine movement cannot be stopped -- it can only be saddened -- by the loss of its leaders. We know, as Huey says in the film, that we cannot completely protect our leaders in this stage of the struggle. But we also know, as the old saying goes, in the blood of martyrs are the seeds of a rising nation.
We see that Huey is a victim who wants no pity. He only asks that people be faithful to the cause. Like the assassinated union organizer Joe Hill, he says: "Don't mourn for me, organize!"
Therefore, real supporters of Huey will do more than demand his freedom or memorialize him. We should also take his words, ideology and example seriously. I would like to underline tonight three of Huey's major suggestions to white radicals: that we need a program, we need an organization, we need to pick up the gun in self-defense.
First, Huey has argued that individualism is not in the long run a substitute for program, for machinery which can carry out a strategy for the liberation of this country.
We need a program, something like the Black Panther Party's Ten Points. We need a program as a way of expressing our needs at the present time; a program which we can begin to educate around and even begin to implement in the streets, factories and schools; which stands as a direction for people looking for an alternative to relate to; that addresses national issues while being also a model for local programs; a program based on broad agreement but which does not yet require a national revolutionary organization.
Such a program should be the subject of much discussion within the movement, and clearly it cannot come from this podium. But just as an example, suppose we took the 1966 Black Panther program and applied its logic and structure to the problems faced by all the people.

Second, Huey argues that sooner or later we will need organizational machinery to pull together the revolutionary forces in this country. Huey draws an important distinction between the black community and the white radical youth. Among the blacks there is a widespread sense of collective problems requiring collective, organized action; but Huey calls the young whites "anarchists" because of our supreme concern for personal freedom.
There are some legitimate reasons for this anarchism on the Left. We have seen too many "protest" movements integrated as pressure groups into the power structure. We know that power resides in the action of people, not in the eloquence of their "spokesmen." We do not want to build into our movement the values of the larger society: hierarchy, elitism, stifling bureaucracy. We are bored by the sectarian "marxist vanguards" always leafletting us.
But are we not coming to see from experience that the system we face is organized on a worldwide basis? That we face a long battle? That terror and repression will certainly strike our movement? That the mass media is unreliable, that only our own organs and media will prove we exist?
In our present state of spontaneity, we can create a mass awakening, we can continue to break down the authority of the rulers through our defiance. We can count on continuous, growing forms of spontaneous rebellion.
But we cannot defend ourselves against, much less contest and challenge, the power of the State without organized power of our own. We cannot expect people to make long-term committment unless there are vehicles of struggle for them to relate to, unless they see organizations which are concerned about their lives.
We need a revolutionary organization made strong by the participation and diversity of people in it, one that stimulates people to struggle for power where they live and work and study, one in which people can prepare to take control of their own lives by contesting the power of those who immediately oppress them. We need an organization based on the concept of revolutionary coalition put foward by Eldridge Cleaver, a coalition seeking "liberation in the colony and revolution in the mother country."
The first step must be in the mass recognition that individualism, "doing our own thing", will never bring down the Empire. The cultural revolution of youth, like the cultural nationalism of blacks, is a necessary -- but not a sufficient -- condition for making revolution.
In addition to program and organization, Huey has argued that whites should be ready to employ self-defense, Eldridge replied, to explain differences between Panthers and Yippies, replied, "They only use toy guns."
We should become serious about self-defense and revolutionary violence: we need to be in good physical condition, know how to fight back, be expert in using and defending against weapons of all kinds, know how to protect ourselves, and administer first aid.
The first reason for self-defense is that we not be unprepared as a state of war unfolds between the blacks and the white racists. We need to indicate that if aggression goes on against blacks, the Man better save some troops for the suburbs. Otherwise we will fit Che's description of the "supporters" of Vietnam being similar to the fans applauding at a bullfight. If there is going to be a bullfight, we should be in the ring.
The second reason to be concerned about self-defense is that since at least October, 1967, we have seen that the reactionaries are willing to kill not only Vietnamese and blacks but their own white, middle class children. When they cannot wash our brains they will beat our skulls. They will not respect our rights when we use them effectively. Then they turn to force. To the extent we are facing a police state, we must be warriors, we must think in military as well as political terms; How to frustrate the use of troops, how to protect our people, how to win in the streets.
In a time of encroaching fascism, our ultimate power becomes our destructive power. When genocide or "legal" extermination is on the minds of the rulers, we have to make the cost of such a move too high for them to pay.
Are "objective conditions" ripe for the initiatives I am suggesting?
Perhaps not. Certainly the masses of people are not yet in motion, and certainly the economy is not at a point of collapse.
But the cost of Empire in taxes and blood is rising, there are massive unmet needs in the country, and most important, a profound crisis of authority, a sense that those in power cannot understand or deal with the people's problems.
The people have good reason to suspect their rulers. They have been caught in lies and credibility gaps, in defeats on the battle-field in Vietnam, in a gold crisis in the midst of prosperity. They have been exposed, mocked and embarrassed in the past few years like never before. Faced with youth and Third World people up in arms everywhere, they cannot find any real allies. With or without the Pueblo, they cannot even locate Eldridge
The chief sign of national bankruptcy is the increasing use of the military to "solve" social problems, a process which eventually must lead to the Pentagon becoming the functional government of the United States. Instead of Hubert Humphrey's prophecy that the Great Society would be exported to Southeast Asia, what is coming true is Ronald Reagan's prophecy that Vietnam is being brought to America.
But I'd also say that conditions do not develop automatically, according to "objective" laws. People can create their own conditions. Huey says, "The spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology." Men can speed up time.
How much time do we have anyway? This generation of young people will probably make a decisive change or this murderous system will carry us all into a holocaust. If there is to be a future it will be guaranteed by what men do in the present.
How long can we wait anyway? How long is long enough? How much blood is enough? Huey speaks of 50 million slaves who died on the way to North America. In the last several years, at least 200 people were killed in northern black rebellions: most of them shot down in the streets. Three million tons of bombs have been dropped on Vietnam since 1965; one million tons more than were dropped by the U.S. everywhere in all of World War II.
Revolutionaries sometimes must have patience, but there are limits to what should be endured. In his last public speech, Eldridge made clear that for himself the time of endurance was over: "I don't know how to go about waiting until people practice what they preach. Because all I see is a very critical situation where there's pain, there's suffering, there's death, and I see no justification for waiting until other people get ready. I see no justification for not moving even if I have to move by myself."
We are living all too comfortably amidst barbarism and sadism. We must not accommodate, we must not become the "good Germans" under the new Nazis. Today as never before the question cannot be how LONG you live but HOW; not WHEN you die but for WHAT; the only way to live, to be human, in the shadow of fascism is to live dangerously. We have to go with Huey, go with him to victory or death.

BLACK CAPITALISM FOR WATTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (LNS) -- The Watts ghetto will serve as the "model"
community for Nixon's brand of black capitalism. The Commerce Department has
promised $7.6 million in grants and loans to help out private investors form
a 34 1/2 acre industrial park. Commerce Department officials predict that the
project will create some 2,400 jobs for the "hard core unemployed,"
will create annual payrolls of $43 million and will produce $60 million worth
of products a year. The project should also pull out some $9 million in taxes
and reduce welfare costs.
In other words, the new influx of industry is designed to get people off welfare roles and into the factories. The lever for protest will become the relatively innocuous strike, rather than the riot.
The Commerce Department says that not only will the ghetto residents be able to work, but some of them might get into the ownership game. Just how government and private investors plan to get black people into positions of control in unclear.
The Watts Industrial Park idea came from the Los Angeles Economic Resources Corp., a nonprofit organization of Negro and white businessmen. They devised the plan under the Johnson administration and have ratified it under the Nixon regime.

REVOLUTIONARY MEDICINE
In all wars, especially a revolutionary war, the importance of medicine, and
medical technology is of the utmost importance.
We must begin now, without hesitation to implement and expand the medical knowledge of our beautiful sisters in this Revolutionary Struggle. Although quite a few sisters will be expected to pick up the gun, we must not forget that they must also be capable of picking up the medical bag.
Skill comes from practice and necessity, its no doubt in the mind of Revolutionary Black man, that Revolution is the only answer to obtain complete freedom. So this brings about the importance of Revolutionary Medicine, Revolutionary Health and the ability to perform the tasks of pulling the trigger, but also the task of binding a wound.
Strict enforcement of all health rules, complete knowledge of first aid and the correct equipment must be stressed.
In a revolution there is no comfort, only in the mind in knowing that complete freedom is our goal.

Pigs Vamp on Tom Hayden on steps of U.S. Court House
On March 21st shortly after 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon Tom Hayden, founder of
Students for a Democratic Society, arrived at the federal building in San Francisco.
Tom was accompanied by his attorney, Charles R. Garry. Tom Hayden and Mr. Garry
were coming to the federal building to comply with a prearranged agreement which
Mr. Garry had made with the U.S. Commissioner's office, in which Tom Hayden
was to surrender himself to the U.S. Marshall's office.
The arrangement was made due to an indictment stemming from last year's Democratic National Convention in which seven other persons were indicted including the Chairman of the Black Panther Party, Bobby Seale.
A press conference was called for 1:00 p.m. Once Tom and Mr. Garry reached the court house steps, the federal pig marshalls rushed up to them and grabbed Tom by the arm and pushed him toward the entrance of the building. Newsmen and cameramen were also pushed and shoved by those arrogant pigs. Tom nor his attorney were allowed to make statements or answer questions for the press. The big 3.57 carrying pig refused to answer any of Attorney Garry's questions. He would not oink even once. Once inside the building, Tom, Charles Garry, and everyone was pushed toward one elevator, into it, and up to the twentieth floor to the federal pig pin.
Tom was then rushed into U.S. Commissioner Richard S. Goldsmith's trough. Only Charles Garry was allowed to accompany him. Everyone else was made to wait for hours.
"A pig is a pig". The tactics used on the steps of the federal building is typical of that used by the pigs in the streets of the Black Community. They ask the fugitive to surrender and come out with his hands up so they can shoot with no fear of being shot at. Bobby Hutton was murdered by this process.
After hours of waiting, the pigs booked and finger printed Tom. One thousand dollars bail was posted and he was released.

PROTESTERS DEMAND: FREE MARTIN SOSTRE
NEW YORK, -- There persons were arrested outside of Governor Rockefeller's office
here today during a demonstration to demand freedom for Martin Sostre, a black
political prisoner now serving a 41-year sentence on trumped up narcotics charges.
Martin Sostre, who is in Green Haven Prison in Stormville, New York, was given one of the beaviest sentences to be handed down in recent years in the racist U.S. courts to a black liberation fighter, For the past eight months, prison officials have kept Sostre in solitary in an attempt to break his militant resistance to the legal lynching.
Today's demonstration was organized by Youth Against War & Fascism and the Coalition for an Anti-Imperialist Movement in an effort to expose the frame-up and bring the case of Martin Sostre to the public eye.
The three demonstrators were arrested during an argument with police when a phalanx of cops broke up a picket line on the busy corner of Fifth Avenue and 55 Street and tried to herd close to 200 demonstrators into police barricades on the deserted side street. Objecting to this obvious attempt to prevent the demonstration for Sostre from being seen or heard, Fred Goldstein, managing editor of Workers World, Maryann Weissman, National Coordinator of Youth Against War & Fascism, and Sue Davis, an activist in the youth group, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration. Angry demonstrators chanted, "Free Sostre, Jail the Pigs" as the three were taken to a paddy wagon.
Two weeks ago the Martin Sostre Defense Committee confronted Rockefeller at a Town Meeting held in Buffalo. A representative of the committee got the microphone and demanded that the governor release Sostre from solitary immediately and call a full investigation into the frame-up. At the same time Sostre supporters outside picketed the meeting.
In answer to these demands, Rockefeller ordered the State Correction Commissioner, Paul D. McGinnis, to publicly deny the charge that Sostre was in solitary. Five days after the meeting McGinnis told the Buffalo press that Sostre was in "segregation" because he had helped fellow prisoners with legal counseling and because he refused to answer questions about his "involvement in black militant groups." In effect, "segregation" is nothing but a new name for solitary confinement.
The Sostre case has been consistently censored out of the bourgeois press, despite the untiring work of the Martin Sostre Defense Committee in Buffalo, New York, to publicize this major frame-up. Sostre was arrested in July, 1967, just after the rebellion in the black community of Buffalo. At that time he was the owner of an Afro-Asian bookstore in the black community which was the only outlet in the city for black nationalist and revolutionary literature. At first, Buffalo authorities accused Sostre of having caused the rebellion, but they soon dropped all the political charges and decided to frame the black militant as a narcotics pusher.
Sostre's supporters picketed today in front of Rockefeller's office on 55 Street for about 20 minutes with chants of "Free Sostre, Jail Rockefeller," "Eight Months in Solitary, Free Martin Sostre" and "Stop the War Against Black America." Then the demonstration went mobile into a march down Fifth Avenue, across town in the busy 42 Street area and ended at Herald Square. A large red banner at the head of the march read: "Free Martin Sostre, Black Political Prisoner." Other banners demanded "Free Eddie Oquendo," "Free Huey Newton, Free Martin Sostre -- All Black Political Prisoners" and "Martin Sostre Must Be Set Free."
At a brief rally at the end of the march one demonstration leader declared that this was the opening action to be taken in a campaign to build mass support for the struggle of Martin Sostre and his many brothers now prisoners in U.S. imperialism's jails. "We want to build a mass movement," said Ed Vogel of YAWF, "to help free Martin Sostre, Huey Newton, Eddie Oquendo, and all the other political prisoners, black and white."

SDS SUBPOENAED
Statement by Karl Dietrich Wolff of German SDS in regard to his having been
subpoenaed to appear before the Senate Internal Securities Subcommittee:
It should be clear that I have no interest at all in conferring secretly with members of the American ruling class -- the ruling class which is waging the war of aggression against the Vietnamese people. If I am nevertheless ready to appear at all before the Internal Securities Subcommittee of the United States Senate, I will do so with the sole purpose of exposing the machinations of this dirty gang of bandits to the public. Obviously this can only be possible if there is open admission to the `hearing.' Those who are being betrayed every day by their supposed representatives should at least have the right to watch that betrayal. I will not confer with members of the U.S. ruling class in secret.
After the attempts of HUAC, grand jury indictments, and the Joe McCarthy-John McClellan Permanent Investigation Subcommittee to harass, intimidate, and repress the American movement, what is the purpose of my having been subpoenaed?
They want to make the public forget that there are social causes for conflict.
When 3,000 high school students occupy Lindsay's office in New York, they look for Columbia students whom they think must have incited it. When there is a citywide high school strike in Los Angeles, the outside agitators must be found. When there is massive student unrest on the campuses, let's lie to the people that one of the reasons is perhaps the agitation by a German SDSer. By focussing on the myth of the outside agitator they attempt to obscure their own role in exploitation, oppression, and murder at home and abroad. I for one prefer the outside agitator to the outside murderer. After the French government attempted to discredit Daniel Cohn-Bendit as being an outside agitator, the masses replied, `We are all German Jews, We are all undesireable.'
When people try to move in a direction of self-determination, they tell them, `You are tools of all interests.' Therefore these witch-hunting committees drag out the time-worn spectre of an `internationalist conspiracy,' as if it were unnatural that people throughout the world should join their struggles for liberation from hunger, exploitation, war, and oppression. We need not conspire. Our goals and methods are public. Their desire to label us a conspiracy is a psychological projection. It is they who conspire, through NATO's Nixon&DeGaulle& Kiesinger Inc. to safeguard the fascist coup d'etat of the colonels in Greece. It is they who conspired through the C.I.A. to overthrow the Iranian Mossedegh government, the revolutionary government in Guatamala, to cite only two examples. It is they who conspire to organize genocide against the people of Vietnam who are seeking self-determination. It is they who conspired through these committees in collaboration with grand juries and police apparatuses to crush the black liberation movement.
In this specific situation there is the case of the bandit Dodd and his conspiracy with the most reactionary elements of the West German ruling class. Dodd is on the committee which has subpoenaed me, and his history of corrupt financial and political peddling with General Julius Klein is ample proof of why he would like to see me harassed. Considering this close relationship, it is not surprising that I was subpoenaed after German Embassy officials monitored my lectures at U.S. universities. Dodd is part of a conspiracy to repress those who oppose the returning elements of fascism in West Germany.
We certainly remember how Bertolt Brecht and Elsler were treated by the parallel House committee, HUAC. Even though it is almost too flattering for a German to be placed by you in the tradition with Brecht, we certainly do remember your McCarthyite efforts to create fear of an international conspiracy in the population. Today you cannot hide any more. It is the oppressive minorities like you who are, as a matter of fact, conspiring and ruining our countries.
Sartre, a few years ago, refused to visit the United States and many of his reasons are still valid today. The policy of the impertalist government of the United States has only become more aggressive and more brutal. The information to which the American population has access about the political developments in the world has become no better. Still the majority of Americans are being lied to every day by mass media who decide which is `the news that's fit to print.' Perhaps I should have paid more attention to Hans Magnus Enzensberger last year when he explained fully why he was leaving Weslyan College and the United States for Cuba, first free territory of the Americas.
But our movements do not give in to harassment. The necessity of stopping the internal Security and Subcommittee and their fellow bandits is not just a verbal committment. My lawyers have advised me that it would be constitutional for me to plead the Fifth Amendment. The U.S. Senate Internal Security Subcommittee is not a body before which I could at all incriminate myself. To have spoken to people in this country about the dangerous move to the right in "free world" countries, the emergence of a new institutional fascism which does not need the goosestep or the black uniform of the SS, to have talked about the necessity to break the international conspiracy of NATO, and to have been subpoenaed for all this proves that I have done the contrary of incriminating myself -- I have spoken the truth, and it has offended.
The U.S. government, of course, would prepare red-carpet receptions for the main propagandizer in the Nazi-occupied territories, West German Chancellor Kiesinger. They of course have only immigration's harassment and illegal arrests for me. They show us who is allying with whom when they speak of American-German friendship in West Berlin or in Washington. In West Berlino their brand of German-American friendship consists of the news that secret service might shoot unpredictable when the President of the United States sneaks in and out of the city like a thief. In West Germany it consists of the Springer Press having a total blackout of news about the situation in the US ghettoes. The least thing I could do here I have tried to do - bring the message that the victories of the movement in the US are considered our victories, that the repression against the radical movement here is represion against us. The economic and political interdependence of our socities has made international solidarity more than just a moral duty to speak up for the oppressed anywhere.
They are a bunch of criminal bandits. I have certainly not come here today to serve their dirty purposes.
We know that we are not alone.

The Anatomy of Extermination
A lawyer defending four Black Panthers on arson-conspiracy charges told a Criminal
Court jury today that the Declaration of Independence is "a racist document."
Delivering a closing argument aimed frankly at the ten Negro members of the jury, the lawyer, Arthur Turco, of New York also said the Constitution was "written against the black man."
Mr. Turco, a white man, said that "a Black Panther does not commit arsons," but instead "stands for the truth."
Those Charged
The defendants, Jimmy Williams, 20, a former Baltimore police cadet; his wife Leslie, is; James Morris, 16, and Kim Hollinsworth, 15, all of New York, are charged with conspiring to burn down a food market in the 600 block Cherry Hill road.
Young Morris is also accused of firebombing the store, the Supreme Supermarket, August 31, following several days of picketing demonstrations protesting high prices.
Facts Get Little Time
The jury was expected to retire this afternoon after receiving Instructions from Judge Basil A. Thomas.
Mr. Turco, who addressed his remarks to "members of the courtroom," as well as the jury, launched into a history of the black man in America and spent little time discussing the facts of the case.
He said Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, refused to include a clause "for the black man."
The Constitution Mr. Turco said. considered a Negro only three fifths the value of a white man in the election process.
The lawyer spoke sarcastically of the "great white leader," George Washington, who alledgely refused to let Negroes fight during the Revolutionary War.
"There have always been Black Panthers," Mr. Turco said, listed Benjamin Banneker, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and "all those blacks who fought with John Brown."
The attorney said there are 30 million "slaves" in this country who are still fighting for their freedom.
Mr. Turco said the press is against Black Panthers "because they stand for truth."
President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. King were killed because they spoke the truth, Mr. Turco told the court. As to Black Panthers, he said, "You better get rid of them, because they speak the truth."
EXTERMINATION
The atrocities against the Black Community have been many and have bore a nature of Barbarism in the purist form. Fiendish forms of death have become the order of the day. Nightmares of every nature hoover over Oakland and the rest of the world. Nightmares created out of fear, and lust, are nourished by the ignorance of our people.
The fanged hands of birth control is tightning its grip around the minds of young black mothers and the throats of unborn warriors. The lifeblood of our community, and the backbone of our future, is being destroyed. We have befell every torment except complete extermination. Yet we still seem to under-estimate the evil and the decay that is handed us by the oppressor. We still fall upon our knees and follow white nationalism. You have been told to pray up on some freedom. Yet, at the very mement of prayer this decadent American Government is esculating it's genocide over the world. You have been made passive and confused by the slyness of the oppressor, or don't you believe that this devil has that power?
Don't think for a moment that you have been overlooked by the system of robbery, deprivation and death, this system that you defend, this system that you say you try so hard to identify with, this system we all know as Capitalism.
The bastards of Capitalism who knock at the door of our community bearing gifts are not our friends. For they, the Bastards, with one hand murder and oppress peoples of other countries, with the other hand, steal, corrupt, plunder, and employ mercinary armies. These degenerate sons of thoroughbreed bitchesh "donate" so called grants of blood money and tell you that their reasons are noble and true. Yet, how can this be? These same inhuman monsters that we know by their humane titles as Henry Ford, General Motors, Packard, Rockerfeller, Howard Hughs, Kaiser etc. are the main suppliers of wartime materials. They finance biological warfare materials that are being used to corall millions of people and used to destroy millions more. Their grimy, sticky fingers are in every belly in the world except those countries who have the initiative to tear off the arms. of these decrepit punks, and drive them from their land.
The cost of rebellion is -- go, but the reward is freedom. The cost of not rebelling is complete extermination, and the only reward is a meaningless grave. Ask the Jews.
Look around you, California has become a major target for the treachery of mad dog Nixon and his band of lackeys. Money is being poured into this miserable lifeless hunk of real estate to make you think that your slavemaster has changed and wants you to become your friend. He say's he's going to show you the goodlife that he enhoys, and you eat that up like Christmas candy. But if you stop to think, thats the same way a pimp catches his prey, ain't it? Look around you and take notice of the arrogance of the pig who enjoys the life of a mercinary. The pig who holds the gun on the people while the avaricious business man robs you right in front of your face. The pig that has quadrupled his tools for oppression is also the pig who they tried to make you believe at one time was your friend. The murderous swine who keeps you in line as the S.S., is the same one who did it to the Jews. Look around you and at least open your mind to the possibility that Oakland has been selected as a prime target for a new era in atrosities against the Black man in America. My reasons are based on the fundamentals of how the racist dog moves. I have learned since being a Panther, that the genocidel practices of this mad dog oppressor has reached an Ultra-advanced stage. The time is so short in fact, that a committee for investigating the destruction of monstrous complexes that have grown out of the ground has to be set up. Facilities for processing and transporting human beings are, at the so - called post office in West Oakland, where also nearby housing projects, three in fact, are located. In the middle runs Mr. Rapid Transit himself, straight to the freightyards and to the Bay. Also, Freeway exits have sprung up throughout the Black Community -- possibly for the expedient transportation of troops and arms. Also to be noticed is the attitude of the powerful Capitalistic influences in the Bay Area. Also to be placed among the top priority list is the attitude of the pig. Also to be considered is the gigantic Pacification Programs being fed to these Bourgeoise Negroes under the name of Black Capitalism, which is only a thing to keep our minds off of what is really happening. I cannot help but think how stupid the Black Community is to the attitudes and tactics of this racist society and that fact allocates their boldness, which has to be exposed and in the same breath destroyed. If you won't allow yourself the benefit of even investigating the activities that may be concerning, your life, the life of your family, and the life of the entire race of Black People in America, then you are not only a fool but you deserve to perish. You are of no value to the people. If you care so little about yourself to not even open your mind to the possibility of such a scheme, then you should on that basis admit that you are allowing the same ignorance to prevail as did the Jews. They also believed that the racist Germans would and could never commit Genocide on their people. Then yet over six-million went to the chambers of death like sheep. Why? Because they thought as you are thinking now. They thought as long as they had a piece of a job and or a classification, nothing would happen.

If you call yourself a Christian, a follower, and a practitioner of the ways of Christ, then you are saying that you put away individualism and you live for the benefit of all men. You are saying that you would welcome a socialist form of government as Jesus illustrated by the sharing of the fishes and the loaves. For he knew, by showing a correct example of a collective life and attitude, the people will understand the necessity of unity. He knew that the energies of a unified people could confront any problem and move any obstacle. You say this is your way, but I say to you that you are a muttle headed, spinelessroach. I say that you are relating to this corrupt system of oppression and degradation as did the people who at one time followed Lot. You've read and ran your jibes about these foolish people, how they would not listen to the brother when they told them to come out of her for she is a magot knowing only death. But people laughed in his face, as they would in Huey's. The people wanted the luxury just as you do now. So Lot, even with tears in his heart turned away and did what he had to do. God did not tell Lot to stay and die, he said come out of her and he did, by any means necessary.
I'm saying the same thing that you'll read in your precious bible, come out of her, stop relating to her, stop identifying with this infected whore. Stop letting the devil corrupt your children. MURDERER SET FREE
So-called equal law and justice was exemplified Thursday March 20, 1969 with
the acquittal of San Francisco policeman Michael R. O'Brien by an all-white
jury.
The charge against O'Brien was that of manslaughter of a Black truck driver named George Baskett. O'Brien, after his systematic slaying of brother Baskett, had been facing a first degree murder charge, but this had been dropped by a racist group called the grand jury to the lower charge of manslaughter. It seems that the grand jury doesn't feel that the killing of a Black man can be defined as murder.
The whole trial was filled with enough evidence to convict O'Brien not only of murder but also of a long line of racist activities in the Black community, O'Brien was defended by that great advocate of this so-called law and order system little T. B. pig Jake Ehrlich. Ehrlich has in many instances on the news media portrayed himself as a complete racist pig who minces words and uses a lot of abstract double talk to try to prove otherwise.
The testimony of the many eyewitnesses for the prosecution seemed to be of no relevance to the jury who went about their seemingly inevitable business of bringing back a not-guilty verdict.
In essence, this trial was a complete contradiction and hypocrisy of this oft times word called justice, as was the trial of Huey P. Newton. The difference is that in the case of Huey, the innocent was imprisoned, and in O'Brien's case, the guilty was set free.
To sum the whole situation up, we find that the criminals are not the people in the prisons but the people who sit in judgement and the capitalistic pig establishment in general. It's relatively visible that Black people can't obtain justice in the courts, so the only alternative is to get it in the streets.

DENIAL OF DECENT HOUSING
Black people in the racist country have long suffered from a lack of decent
housing that's fit for shelter of human beings. This condition has not only
existed from the time we were first forced here as slaves to build this racist
country as it is today, but it also as a problem that exists in every Black
community at the present time…
If we were to investigate the homes in our Black communities, we would find many of them in conditions that are unhealthy for human beings to live in. You would find such things as over crowding, poor heating, poor plumbing, rotten foundations, holes in walls, leaking roofs, or breaking plaster. But these are only a few, not to mention such things as rodents finding their way into bedrooms eating the flesh of young children. Or roaches and insects that crawl into the dirty, cheap and half-rotten food that is sold in the Black community.
There are countless cases of small Black children who die from lead poisoning because they eat plaster from the wall. These unhealthy conditions results in sickness, diseases and even death. Therefore it is more correct to say that Black people are actually living in concentration camps as they always have. They are living in 20th century concentration camps. The difference between those which the Jews lived in and those which Black people live in, is that one resulted in death from poison gas and the other results in death due to prolonged sickness, diseases, and inhuman conditions.
Exploiting landlords increases these problems by not providing necessary maintenance to keep homes from further deteriorating. Some people may say that all that's needed to be done is to keep a house clean, but this is not true. Just as a car needs maintenance to keep running, a house also must be maintained. Many Black people are not in a position to accomplish any large amount of repairs to their homes, because of lack of sufficient income and the robbery by the avaricious businessman in the community. This also making it difficulty to support a family.
Homes in the Black community are not only priced extremely high and heavily taxed, but also poorly built. There are those who tell us that we are making progress in the way of better housing. But this is not correct. Houses today are built as before, cheap boxes, and sold or rented at rates which low income families cannot possibly afford. The Acorn project in West Oakland is a good example of homes that cheaply thrown up as fast as possible and made to appear pleasant and well built. This As only another trick bag to make Black people think they are getting something well built. Not only are these projects cheaply put up, but they are also strategically designed concentration centers that can be easily surrounded by foreign troops (Pigs) to murder Black people anytime they wish to move on them.
Therefore if the white landlords will not give decent housing to our Black community, then the housing and land should be made into cooperatives so that our community, with government aid, can build and make decent housing for its people.
On the other hand, if fat, greedy squids, such as gunny face Willliam Knowland, Ronald Reagan, or Richard Nixon refuse to allow government aid to our Black community for decent housing instead of aiding a genocidal war against the Vietnamese people, then Black people must arm themselves by buying guns, learning to properly use them and organize in the millions so that they can effectively move on these pig-racist politicians.

THE VANGUARD PARTY IS AN EDUCATOR
A revolutionary's knowledge of life and death exceeds that of the so-called
Negro in this racist society by such a wide margin that it's pathetic. Living

We must first create an intelligent society containing people relating to altruism instead of relating to materialistic ideas perpetrated by the pig power structure.
Only a pig wants this decadent society in which we live. We must end the beastly killing, molesting, systematic confinement and torture of our beautiful black brothers and sisters by the racist power structure and its' oppressive forces. In order to rid yourself of the gun, you will find that it is necessary to pick up the gun. Unless you obtain this protection, you may find yourself shot or forever being beaten with whatever is of the pigs' liking. Any person capable of thinking is also capable of learning SELF. This is a necessity in order to act and be treated like people instead of letting ourselves be treated in an obscene manner. It is the job of the true black man to rid his people of the depressive bullshit administered by capitalistic pigs. It is the responsibility of the black woman to help teach black men, if they don't know, direct him if he's unsure, and support him when he relates to the revolution. We realize violence is a sign of ignorance. We also understand that sometimes in dealing with ignorance it is necessary to deal through violence. Stop dreaming, black people.

To All the People in The Black Community
The Black Panther Party in Los Angeles as well as nationwide, will continue
to be the Vanguard in the Black Movement. This simply means, that there are

on and remain to be an iron weight, holding the people and the struggle back.

The Black Panther Party is the Black Liberation Army, for the people, and we who belong to this Army relate to the practice of Democratic Centralism. We don't have absurd, off brand, half crazed fools demanding any special consideration for major or minor achievements or difficulties they have encountered.
It is very hard to organize Black People. The "man" and all his TRICKNOLOGY has been successfully dividing our people against each other for centuries, and the worst thing about this wretched situation is that we have allowed him to do so.
We have to reach all types of black people, who basically stem from the same walk of life. Here in Los Angeles, we have black people who have migrated from all parts of the country, we have all kinds of Toms, bootlickers, opportunists, Black Capitalists and even the petty bourgeous to contend with. In order to organize, we all have to understand and recognize that factor which seems to be ignored by 3/4 of our people; that is, that we, no matter what our economic and social standards, we as Black People, have been and still are an oppressed race and that we are and have been victims of racism and discrimination; but most of all we have been and still are being murdered, beaten, abused and mistreated. This must come to a halt now. The only alternative for a Black person to take is The Black Panther Party, the only organization that is politically and militarily taking care of business for the betterment of these barbaric conditions.
We would like all our people to fully understand this. We will explain and re-educate you, because you are our people and we MUST take time. However, looking at the situation realistically, we are fully aware that there are a number of our people who we will not be able to reach. A few examples are that either they are too hung up in redeeming our culture or they are too indoctrinated to the materialistic values the power structure has forced upon them.
I shouldn't have to spend hours or pages of paper trying to convince a black person that he is hungry, poor and oppressed. If he can't see and feel that, then he is a blind MF.
I will conclude in saying; You better check out what is happening around you - worldwide and locally before we all end up in a MF ZOO. You "poor, unenlightened Black people will have to relate to the gun (but only as an organized body) as a means of self-defense and protection against the pig troops which swarm into our communities like hungry wolves attacking sheep. The People on the Move
We want freedom. We want the power to determine the destiny of our community.
The Black Panther Party, the Black and Puerto Rican community in the south East
Bronx is on the move, against the pig structure. On March 3, 1969, the Lincoln
Hospital Mental Health Non-Professional Association, made up of Black, Puerto
Rican and white supporters, took over the administration of Lincoln Hospital
functions.
They did this because they had decided to deal in a revolutionary manner with white racist administrators. Pig administrators who have been authorizing the sterilization of Black and Puerto Rican mothers because in their view they had too many children. Later for birth control. They did it because they had enough of pigs letting the people die through negligence. They did it because four brothers had been fired for no reason. Dig it, the pig does not think he has to give a reason for vamping on the people. Off the pig.
Brothers G. Davis, M. Nesbit, H. Johnson, and D. Farley were fired. The pig union, the Drug and Hospital workers union has decided not to relate to this local's problem.
Dig the pigs game. The Mental Health Program is funded by the racist, capitalistic governor, to the tune of three million dollars. One half of that is supposed to go to the community in the form of services. According to the WORKERS ON THE STAFF, 85% goes to racist pig doctors and Uncle Toms in the form of salaries. And dig this, Albert Einstein Institute runs Lincoln Hospital. The pig Zionist are always at it.
Lincoln Hospital has paid out $90,000 to Bronx State, a supposed Drug Rehabilitation center. Yet, there are only twenty-five beds available for all of the Black and Puerto Rican community of the South East Bronx.
The people charge Lincoln Hospital and Lincoln Hospital Service with Institutional Racism. The people charge Lincoln Hospital with abdicating their jive sense of social responsibility. The people charge Lincoln Hospital with Genocide. The Black Panther Party moved on March 3, when the people moved. The Black Panther Party was out with the people getting petitions signed. The Black Panther Party will answer the needs of the people.

RICHMOND BREAKFAST FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
"Mamma I'm hungry."
"I'm sorry honey but we don't have any food in the house, but you can go down to the church on the corner, the Black Panthers have a breakfast for children set up and they'll give you something to eat."
Mr. exploiter businessman I haven't had any breakfast, can you give me something to eat?"
"Sorry kid if you don't have any money you can't get anything. I'm here to make a profit in your community, not give handouts to hungry Black kids."
Does this sound abstract, or over exaggerated? It's happening every day in the Black community. Poverty, hunger and joblessness is very visible and very real in this so called democratic country. The name of the game is capitalism. Capitalism can be broken down into a system of haves and have nots. This society does not relate to humanitarianism but rather to profit gained by a few at the expense of the majority. This is also a visible reality you can look around and see the economic and industrial tycoons such as the Rockefellers, the Fords, etc. These jive style pigs run this country and our lives. An evaluation of the situation and conditions in this country gives people the true nature of a capitalistic system and the contradictions and detriment of the so called benefits that the establishment is always espousing that it has for the people.
The non - existent relationship between the establishment and the people is clearly shown by the poverty, unemployment and decadent housing conditions in a country that boasts of being the richest in the world. I won't knock this because it is true, it must be, because the establishment is spending billions of dollars sending rockets up to the moon and millions more in Viet Nam conducting genocide on our brothers and sisters of color over there. Yet these same bastards can't even feed hungry children breakfast in the morning. "BULLSHIT"
The Black Panther Party's program of breakfast for children in the morning is a socialistic program and socialism is a system that relates to the basic needs and desires of the people. More and more people are awakening to the fact that they are being used by the establishment and that the time is overdue for a complete change in the system under which we exist.
Certain elements in the church bureaucracy in North Richmond, namely those in the North Richmond Missionary Baptist and Davis Chapel seem to be interested not in spiritual or physical uplifting of the people but only in their own high church positions. These people are a bunch of egotistical hypocrities. They are a bunch of jive style hypocritical buffoons who should start relating to some practice of their religious beliefs.
These so called deacon boards of these aforementioned churches turned down the breakfast for children program of the Black Panther Party. Their reasons for doing so were so abstract and absurd that it clearly shows that these so called puritanical people are not interested in feeding hungry children or alleviating any of the oppressive conditions in the Black community.
So the message to these people is you had better re-evaluate yourselves with some self-criticism and remember that the first rule of religion is an undying love for your people.
The Black Panther Party is not dealing with any one individual religion or religious belief. We are dealing with an economical, sociological and political situation whereas Black children are going to school supposedly to learn with empty stomachs, while these so called leaders of the religious circles are patting themselves on the back and braggin to each other about how puritanical they are. They should take complete re-evaluation of their situation and the situation of the people as a whole and do it objectively instead of subjectively and realize that these churches are in the Black community supposedly as a service to the people and if it is not serving the people then it must be serving the enemys of the people.
I hope the contradiction that these deacon's have created between the people and the church is resolved in a manner that will be most beneficial to the people so that the people will know that the churches are there to help us and not exploit us and understand that all of the people regardless of race, religion or what have you, must fight for the unity of all people who face a common oppressor, the factory bosses, the regents, and all pigs of the power structure.

INSPIRING SPEECH
Here is an inspiring speech that was made by a man who was willing to fight
and die for freedom from oppression. This is his call to battle. Who was he?
Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton, or Eldridge Cleaver. Let us read it and see:
"We are not weak, if we make a proper use of those forces which the god of nature hath placed in our powers. Millions of people armed in the cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible from any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just god who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we are base enough to desire it, it is not too late to return from the contest. There is no retreat, but in submission and slavery our chains are forged. Their clanking may be heard on the plains of America. The war is inevitable, let it come. I repeat sir, let it come.
It is vain to extenuate the matter. Men may cry peace, peace, but there is no peace. The war is actually begun. The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our cars the clash of resounding arms. Our brethren are already in the field, why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbit it, I KNOW NOT WHAT COURSE OTHERS MAY TAKE, BUT AS FOR ME, GIVE ME LIBERTY, OR GIVE ME DEATH"
Was it Malcolm? Was it Huey? Or was it Eldridge Cleaver who made that stirring speech? We all know that speech was made by neither of these great men, but it could have been, for in essence the words that spilled forth from Patrick Henry's mouth are the same words the Implacables are setting upon our cars today. Patrick Henry spoke these words and went down in history as a patriotic hero. Today, if any Black Man has courage age enough to pick up the gun in defense of his basic human rights he is called a rebel and a communist, and the pig is set nibbling at his heels in search of reason to silence the voice of truth. I believe Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton, and Eldridge Cleaver will have their place in the hearts of all men of color, as soon as the cataracts are removed from the eyes of the masses. These men and all other Implacables, have given their lives, and their freedoms and their hearts and their fortunes for their beloved Black Race. These are men who cannot be bought out. Are their sacrifices in vain? Are we going to let them down? Do we love comfort and health and life so dearly we can sit idly by and watch other Black Men take up arms and die for us? Are we inferior, cowardly, lazy like the quote "Man" unquote said? If you love your people and freedom and justice, repeat after me:
"If I can't live like a man, then I will die like a man; Fighting, to the last breath, the last drop of blood. BY ANY MEANS NECESSRY, for the freedom I love"

BREAKFAST FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN IN DOUBLE ROCK AND HUNTERS POINT
The Breakfast for Children program, which was begun by the Black Panther Party
on March 10, 1969, is a success. During the past two weeks, the Breakfast for
Children program has served a hot breakfast every school day to at least 150
hungry school children from the Fillmore, who, together with their parents and
all black people, are exploited by the greedy racist businessmen in our black
communities.
From now on, not only will the Breakfast for Children program continue to fill the needs of hungry school children in the Fillmore district but also the Black Panther Party is taking the Breakfast for Children program to the other oppressed hungry black communities of San Francisco Beginning Monday morning, March 24, 1969, a hot breakfast will be served every school day to the children of Double Rock and Hunters Point.

NEW YORK, (LNS) -- Pvt. Henry Mills from Ft. Jackson (Columbia, S.C.) has refused
orders to Vietnam. According to the American Serviceman's Union, Mills came
to New York to consult with them and then turned himself in at Fort Dix, the
nearest base.
Mills, who is black, has stated that he will not participate in a war that is immoral and racist.
He has been sentenced to two months hard labor in the stockade. It is expected that, after he serves the two months, he will again receive orders to Vietnam.

US PIGS ATTEMPT TO MURDER MORE PANTHERS
On Friday, March 14, the Black Community witnessed another instance of the pigs
using their agents, or pork-chops, in an attempt to kill another servant of
the people, Black Panther and Section Leader of the Watts office, Ronald Freeman.
Ronald had been an active and powerful voice in the community all that week,
representing the Panther Party regarding the issue of Carver Junior High School
specifically, and community. control of schools, in general. He let the people
in the community and the students know that the Panthers supported and still
support them in their fight, 100%.
After actively participating in the meeting that had been held at Victory Baptist Church surrounding the issue of student strikes, he left the church building, and went into the church parking lot. There he noticed US organization goons, whom he identified as having participated in the assassination of Bunchy Carter and John Huggins last January. For purposes of recording their identities, Ron began taking pictures of these US goons, who had, have and are being used to threaten, harass and even assassinate Black revolutionary leaders.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., in that parking lot, four of these bald - headed, psychedellic, abstract negro, pork-chop nationalists approached Ron. He handed his camera to another Panther. The 4 US niggers grabbed the camera, which Ron attempted to retrieve. A fight ensued. These bootlickers, who have a light-weight reputation for having some kind of ability, in the area of self-defense (Karate), attempted to kick Ronald's ass. The surprise came when these Cheerio - box - top "Black belts" discovered that even with their larger numbers they could not down Brother Ronald. He was definitely getting the best of them. So that suddenly the four backed off and fired a volley of shots. Ronald fell, wounded, having been hit both in the chest and groin areas. It is important to note that all during this entire shooting incident a black and white pig car was stationed across the street, WATCHING; another pig was seen in a phone booth nearby.
He was eventually taken to one of Los Angeles' butcher shops, jokingly referred to as "County Hospital", in critical condition. Later he was reported in satisfactory condition. Various visitors to the hospital phoned to report that US niggers were in Ronald's ward, dressed as orderlies, and freely circulating throughout his floor. Further mistreatment ensued when Ronald, who was still bed-ridden in the hospital, was informed (resulting from previous harassment and another case) that he was to appear in court on Monday, March 17. No consideration was given to his tragic physical condition, nor the possibility that movement could create internal hemorrhaging. Therefore, he was forced to travel under physical strain to the County Courthouse.
At this point the pattern that the comrades-in-arms, pigs and their hind-parts - pork chops, had set in their attempt on Ronald's life becomes even more ridiculous and insane. The kangaroo court, before even hearing one word from Ronald's lawyer. Dr. Richard Wasserstrom (Professor of Law at U.C.L.A.), ordered Dr. Wasserstrom from the court telling him that he was not fit to try any case before that court without a necktie. Ronald in the mean time was subjected to having to wait in his wheelchair while the lawyer sought a necktie that might please the almighty court.
When finally the arraignment procedures had ended, Ronald, who had been wearing County bedroom slippers, was taken out, NOT to his bed at the hospital, but to the County jail (which is located approximately 10 miles outside L. A.), at which place his bedroom slippers and wheelchair were taken from him, as they were the property of the L.A. Country Hospital. So that when he had to call for someone to drive him away from there, he was found standing in bare feet. The brother who picked him up had to drive him back to the hospital and re-admit him.
The whole point in discussing the details of this case is to hopefully bring to light the obvious coalition and plotting of pigs and their agents to destroy not only Black revolutionary leaders, not only the Black Panther Party, but, through these means, the entire Black revolutionary liberation movement. We must awaken to these realities and recognize ALL our enemies, and destroy them if we ever intend to walk the road to Liberation.

PORK-CHOP FOOLS
Certain members of the Black Panther Party have received trash in the mail.
This trash has been sent to different brothers in the Party by low-life, reprobate,
bald-headed punks. These punks don't even have enough nerve to deliver it themselves.
Instead, they let the U.S. Postal service do it in envelopes with no return
address. They probably mail these letters after dark because they don't even
have enough nerve to go to the mailbox in broad daylight. To think that these
Karangatangs and buffoons could believe that a member of the Black Panther Party
would be intimidated by such bullshit when they (the Black Panther Party) have

SHOOTING AT VICTORY BAPTIST CHURCH
While the Black Panther Party has worked and is working daily to support the
demands of students both in body and spirit by working hand in hand with the
Black Students Alliance and the Black Youth Alliance; by being at Carver Junior
High School last Friday and every day since; by meeting with and helping Black
students from Pepperdine College shortly after a young brother was murdered
there last Wednesday; by supporting the demands of the Black students at UCLA
last January in regard to their Black Studies Center - while the Black Panther
Party is even now setting up machinery to have a Free Clinic in the Black Community
by this summer - while the Black Panther Party is instituting a free breakfast
for children program here in Los Angeles as is already existent in the Bay Area
of Northern California - while the Black Panther Party daily fights with, is
killed by and jailed by the local, national and international pig forces - counter
revolutionary, buba - wearing nigger pigs run rampant in the streets causing
us to have still another force to contend with in our struggle for the liberation
of Black people and oppressed people in this country and the world over.
These counter-revolutionary pork-chops are the same pigs that assassinated two revolutionary brothers - Bunchy Carter and John Huggins - last January. These counter-revolutionary niggers are the ones who have private meetings with Pig Chief Reddin. These counter - revolutionaries are the same ones who have secret meeting with Pig Reagan. These counter - revolutionaries are the ones who today attempted to murder yet another Panther brother (Ronald Freedan) while their comrades in arms, the Los Angeles Police (Pig) Dept., sat across the street and watched their lackey dogs do their work. And after the shooting, NO ONE. NO ONE at all was arrested even though the pigs had been sitting across the street WATCHING. The pigs are now supposedly looking for 4 bald-headed negroes "in connection with the shooting". While this shooting occurred, plainclothes pigs were staked out and hovering in front of the Black Panther office on Central Ave., and uniformed pigs attempted to trespass and break and enter into the Black Panther Party office in Watts. But, due to the training of our brothers, they were unsuccessful in this latest attempt.

OREGON PANTHERS STAND OFF PIGS

Central Headquarters and all other fellow Panthers:
Reporting from Eugene, Oregon Branch about the severe conflict that we're having with the pigs, just like other Panthers across the nation:
First I am forced to describe Eugene, Oregon. Eugene, Oregon is a small college town with a population of 77,000 to 100,000 people and with a population of 200 to 300 Blacks. Most of the people who live in the town have some affiliation with the school. In fact 75% of our Branch are University of Oregon students with GPAs of 3.00 and killing the piglets in the classroom every day with highly intellectual, grass-root bullets, that is words.
But on March 19, 1969 at 9:45 a.m. we were forced to show the pigs that we were a new breed of Black People, that we were that m____f____that Malcolm was telling them about who was going to emerge in the late 60's and look him dead in the eyes and tell him that if he was going to blow me away I was going to blow him away. On this dynamic day one of the Eugene pigs, Detective Jack Cater and one of his pigs, Detective Howard Williams went to field lieutenant Oliver Lee Patterson to issue him a warrant for, so the pigs say, tampering with a fire alarm at the University of Oregon which is an outright lie. The real truth is that the pigs are trying to crush the Eugene Branch as others are being crushed throughout the nation. That will not happen here. We have Heart. I will say once again, we're that had m____f____that Malcolm was telling him about. We don't give a damn about the odds.
In the process of issuing the warrant the pigs threatened to kick in Oliver Patterson's door. At that moment Tommy Anderson and Howard Anderson arrived ready to die with Oliver if necessary. We did not want to fight, but we would have. We made it very clear that they could issue the warrant but would not be allowed to kick in the door. We made it clear that if they point a gun we will too. If they shoot a gun we too will shoot back at them. Because of the bravery of Tommy Anderson, Howard Anderson, and Oliver Patterson to make the pigs respect them as men and as well as Black Panthers, the pigs' indignation was overthrown with frustration. I mean their jaws were tight. So immediately they issued warrants for the arrest of Tommy Anderson and Howard Anderson for assault on the pigs with a deadly weapon. This was another outright lie. The warrants were issued at approximately 3:00 p.m. that day.
When the Anderson Brothers found out that they had warrants out for their arrest at $10,000 each they immediately began to organize a Mexican standoff, if necessary. What I'm saying, Brothers, is our attitude was that of Cleaver's. We're not going to jail. We found out about the warrants from one of the pigs' porkchops, Tom Gunttings. When the porkchop came into our office sweating and scared because some pigs were going to get killed for tampering with our human rights we immediately told him "Thanks, Brother porkchop," for your ingenious information. "Now either you can die with us or you can go out to safety."
At this time we were in our headquarters with windows barracaded. We had food, water, gas mask, and ammunition to hold out as long as we could, which could be time enough to get some pigs. The pigs realized that they were going to have to bring some ass to get some ass. When the pigs realized that they dealing with and I'll say it again, that bad m____ f____that Malcolm was telling them about that was to come in the 60's -- that was going to give them bell, they copped out. So during the time that we were barracaded in we contacted friends, lawyers, and members of the community to witness the injustices of the pig department.
Around 5:00 p.m. the pigs were patrolling our headquarters. At last they were ready to attack. By that time we had members of the community, and the twentieth century John Browns, to witness the injustices of their pig department. Our lawyer arrived at 5:30 p.m. approximately. He began to negotiate a way of preventing the pigs from winning the battle but losing the war. The Panthers who are students were ready to say later for that Bachelors Degree, and later for the University of Oregon. The sky is the limit! If the pigs shoot at us we will shoot back!
By this time our lawyer had negotiated with the judge downtown and with the police chief, Art Ellsworth, they were told that if he called off his piggies and respect Mr. Howard Anderson and Mr. Tommy Anderson as men as well as Black Panthers that he could save a lot of blood, Black and White, and that if we could have an arraignment and also reduce the bail to $5,000 each that Tommy and Howard Anderson will come to the courthouse. The Anderson Brothers went to the courthouse, the bail was reduced to $5,000 each. The pigs were mad, the Panthers were proud, the community was happy (incidentally, the community raised the $5,000 bail for each in a matter of fifteen minutes). The Panthers accomplished this. If a man knows that he is right, and ready to pay the dues to prove that he is right, no type of colonialistic and imperialistic powers or pig department can put him down.

NUCLEAR FRAUD BETRAYS WORLD'S PEOPLES' INTEREST
To maintain their nuclear hegemony and carry out nuclear blackmail against other
countries so as to push their counter-revolutionary "global strategy",
U.S. Imperialism and Soviet Revisionism have for years tried to make a deal
over the so-called" nuclear non-proliferation" question. They have
become more eager than before to reach an earlier agreement on this question
since China successfully conducted a number of nuclear tests which have struck
terror into their hearts. They cooked up a so-called "treaty on non-proliferation
of nuclear weapons" at the beginning of 1968 after compromises and concessions
were made by the Soviet Revisionists, and manipulated the U.N. General Assembly
into adopting it last June. Under this treaty, not only can the U.S. Imperialists
and the Soviet Revisionists produce and stockpile nuclear weapons and expand
their nuclear bases, they make no commitments whatsoever not to use nuclear
weapons against the non-nuclear states. The non-nuclear states, however, are
totally deprived of their right to develop nuclear weapons for self-defence
and are even restricted in the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes. To
put it bluntly, the treaty is something imposed on the non-nuclear states to
bind them hand and foot. The Soviet Revisionists also joined with the U.S. Imperialists
in manipulating the U.N. Security Council into adopting a so-called "nuclear
protection" plan, scheming to turn the non-nuclear states into their "protectorates"
so as to control and subjugate them at will.
Scared out of their wits by the remarkable progress of socialist China in the development of guided missles and nuclear weapons, Soviet Revisionism and U.S. Imperialism have in the past few years intensified their collusion against China on the nuclear question. Infact, the Soviet Revisionists have formed a nuclear military alliance with the U.S. Imperialists against China.
A present, further deals are in the brew between Soviet Revisionism and U.S. Imperialism on the so-called question of "limiting the anti-ballistic missile race". Not long ago, the Soviet Revisionists deliberately chose the day of Nixon's inauguration to issue a "statement of the Soviet Union on the policy of the disarmament question", brazenly praising the counter- revolutionary deals between the Soviet Union and the United States on the question of nuclear weapons and expressing the hope of the Soviet Revisionists to reach further agreement with U.S. Imperialism on "curbing the strategic arms race". The U.S. Imperialist boss Nixon openly expressed his appreciation of this. Many heinous moves of the Soviet Revisionist renegade clique made in collusion with U.S. Imperialism under the cloak of "nuclear disarmament" constitute an additional grave crime in betraying the interests of the people the world over and in allying with U.S. Imperialism to oppose China.

No. Vietnam says U.S. must withdraw
PARIS (L N S) -- The following statement is part of the release by Minister
Xuan Thuy, Chief of the Delegation of the Government of the Democratic Republic
of Vietnam, at the fifth plenary session of the Paris Conference on Vietnam,
February 20, 1969.
As we have repeatedly pointed out, if a settlement is to be found for the Vietnam problem, it must be based on the Four-Point position of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the five- point political solution of the South Vietnam problem put forward by the South Vietnam National Front for Liberation.
If the United States really wants to find an "honourable" settlement as it has often declared, it must end its war of aggression against Vietnam, definitively cease all infringements upon the sovereignty and security of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, completely and unconditionally withdraw U.S. and satellite troops from South Vietnam, dismantle all U.S. military bases in South Vietnam, and let the internal affairs of South Vietnam be settled by the South Vietnam people themselves, in accordance with the Political Programme of the South Vietnam National Front for Liberation, without foreign interference. The reunification of Vietnam must be settled by the people of both North and South Vietnam, without foreign interference.
We fully support the position of the delegation of the South Vietnam National Front for Liberation and the way it sets the problem on the basis of its five points. We underline that all U.S. and satellite troops must be withdrawn from South Vietnam without any conditions whatsoever.
In this connection, the resolution of the Bureau of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers adopted at its meeting on February 15, 1969 wrote: "The introduction of U.S. and satellite troops into South Vietnam constitutes a flagrant violation of the 1954 Geneva Agreements in their fundamental principles which recognize the independence, the sovereignty, the unity, and the territorial integrity of Vietnam with interdiction of interference in the internal affairs of Vietnam, and which prohibit any military alliance, introduction of foreign troops, and establishment of foreign military bases in Vietnam. It is contrary to the principle of self-determination of peoples: to international law, to the U.N.O. Charter …. The Saigon administration is illegal from the point of view of internal as well as international law. The so-called commitments of the United States to the Saigon administration are absolutely without legal basis and are in fact a device to try to `legalize' the U.S. neocolonialist policy.
"The U.S. war of aggression against the Vietnamese people is a crime in the eyes of international law.
The United States must completely and unconditionally withdraw all its troops and those of its satellite countries from South Vietnam."

IMPERIALIST AT WORK
NEW YORK (LNS) -- Three subsidiaries of Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. will put out
$10.4 million for "exploration ventures" in Senegal and the Malagasay
Republic, both African areas associated with France.
The agreements were signed with Compagnie Francaise des Petroles. In Senegal, Texas Gulf subsidiaries will finance sulphur, oil and gas explorations on permits held by a subsidiary of the French company.
The permits cover some 2.5 million acres, most of them offshore.
Similar work will be done in the Malagasay Republic over eight million offshore acres.
In Senegal, the Texas Gulf subsidiaries will hold 50 per cent interest in the venture, while in the Malagasay Republic, the American companies will be 20 per cent co-holders.

CHAIRMAN BOBBY SEALE AND `MASI' HEWITT TOUR SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES: SPEAK IN
DENMARK, NORWAY, SWEDEN and FINLAND
CHAIRMAN: This is report to our Centeral Committee of Black Panther Party -
a general report of the tour in the Scandinavian Countries, Denmark, Norway,
Sweden and Finland of the speaking of what the Party did in fact do there and
in fact what we did discover by putting into practice, that is, going forth
in Scandinavia we find that we learn a lot more about the peoples position,
about the radical organizations there, about the few very small percentage of
black brothers there, like there might be one-tenth of one percent black people
in the Scandinavian Countries who are primarily from the U. S. Africa's what
have you. This is a report the Black Panther Party's representatives in Scandinavia
of the National Liberation the visit there in can start it
fools and There's one or two good people in it but they were in a position where
they couldn't do anything with it anyway. When she warned us about Sherman -
that very night this cat Sherman, called and gave us along speech about how
he was - how he felt like be had been tricked and robbed because we were kidnapped
and Scan-SNCC had paid the tickets and this other so-called organization had
kidnapped us. Connie and Skip were what you call the prime movers of what's
it? The Black Liberation Struggle? (The chairman rejects his answer) - Most
continues - No they put out a magazine called Black Liberation - after getting
a run down from them about almost everybody they knew out there and there wasn't
anybody they thought highly of except, Connie was prone to think very highly
of Stokley - by the time we left the next day we, met Sherman Adams at the airport
and he was about just like they described him they didn't have the correct political
analysis, they didn't have any time judge it on and it went that way from one
engagement to the next - we met all sort of fools and one named Robert Lackey,
Bill Caldwell Sherman Adams, who I mentioned before and various minor little
fools and looks. The thing about Sherman Adams was what he was an old SNCC man
and he had been fucking around in Europe for about the last 10 years, in damn
near every country over there and we also found out later that he was in close
contact with - (What's that fool's name - this cat who the Party $250, he used
to be the Captain in the Los Angeles Chapter - what's his name?) Earl Anthony.
While Chairman Bobby and myself were there Sherman Adams tried to get us to
give him permission to other speaking engagements to coincide with ours as a
spokesman for the Panther Party. We told him so that the fool was not only kicked
one, but the fool had left owing the Party money and we were looking for him.
He said "Aw man the brother's over here he's broken and he needs some money,
why don't you let him do it? There's a network work of SNCC bullshit throughout
- on the lower level just under the surface of all this shit, some kind of connection
with Foreman Sherman, this one-time Panther Stokley, and quite a few others.
The cats from Scan-SNCC were very much opposed to us making it known that there
was any spilt in Scan-SNCC and the Panthers, they were against us making it
known that there was any difference is the love of the Panther Party as whole
and Stokley Carmichael in particular, and when we stuck in the line. it did
lie anyway, it was nothing they could say or do, but they tried to stop it on
every level - from the dealing with the people to dealing with other revolutionary
organizations and liberation movements around the world - they didn't want it
known. Then about the middle of our travels we came in contact with this Bill
Caldwell who claimed he had an authorizationn. He showed us a letter signed
by and some letters that he claimed he sent to National Headquarters, but he
turned out to be one of the biggest opportunists there, as matter of fact he
was one of the most organized opportunists there. This cat is working in the
so-called Black Power movement and when we left he was wearing a Mi-The- Tung
button, but his wife works at the American Embassy as a supervisor, so it was
a lotta funny shit going on there, but we put the skids to that shit, and out
his throats, and it only remains to make it official in the newspaper or through
letters directly to him and other concerened, Throughout our travels we met
many people who were sincere but ignorant, and most of 'em were intellectuals
and the longer they'd been in college the more ignorant they seemed to be. Many
called themselves Marxists and were either quite divorced from practice in a
way that was discovered from the masses. The little pockets of black cats that
we found all over, seemed quite caught up on the question of Black power, or
separartism or racism, Stokley's influence had been there before and many of
them were really out in left field like I said the one sister, Connie Matthews,
was on a short quick run to cultural nationalism, and racism and be really didn't
know it. After talking to us though it became quite clear to her what had been
done to her, I think many other people saw, through talking to us, that they
had been tricked and duped by everybody from Stokley to their little local and
thieves that call themselves Black Power experts. We got quite a good understanding
with some black G.L's who were on next weekend liberty in but I don't really
know about the deserters because the deserters were filled up with C.I.A agents
and SNCC agents and all others sort of big pigs and little pigs and damn fools
and
CHAIRMAN: The over-all trip and the things that we came in contact with - the people and organizations we came in contact with was fruitful to our knowledge of the real structure that exists in Scandinavia. It's very, very, very important that those even in Scandinavia who will read this article understand that putting things into practice is where it's at. Now one of the things that the Party tired to put over to people there and organizations - the radical organizations, etc. was that they must go forth and in basic sense make a stand against cap- italism and the only way to make that stand against capitalism is to understand that we don't fight captalism with more captalism, we don't fight racism with more rascism, we don't fight imperialism with more imperialsim, such as the way the Russians using imperialistic tactics in Czechoslovakia, etc. that we can fight rascim with a solidarity of all the third world peoples standing in solidarity with our Viet Namese brothers, our Chinese brothers, our African brothers, all the revolutionary peoples and revolutionary fronts throughtout Asia, Africa and Latin America, the three main revolutionary groups. In Asia, primarily at the top we know, it's China, and the valiant peoples revolutionary struggling people of VietNam, struggling against imperialism. In Africa, the brothers in Southwest Africa, the brothers in Mozambique, the brothers in Angola, Who are fighting the imperialists, the brothers in South Africa, any other brothers, any- where in Africa, and the Cuban brothers in Cuba and Latin America, and any other revolutionary fronts, be they in Venezuela, be they anywhere in Latin America, and of course is North America, is the confines of the continental united states or what have you. The Black-American peoples, Black people here, standing in solidarity with Mexican - American class brothers, standing in solidarity with the Chineses brothers, and the vanguard organizations of these particular groups, the Indian-Americans, and of course along with the progressive white revolutionaries, who the Black Panther Party really considers the true vanguard within the ethnic group of white people, who oppose captialism and see the necessity of establishing real socialistic institutions establishing them so the people can definitely learn by them right now, getting these things going. In essence this is what the Party talked about, this is what the Party educated the people about. We explained to them how tricky Dick Nixon's black capitalism Is will only perpetuate more rascism, and went into grew detail to give an understanding to the people that what causes racism is, in fact, capitalism that is exactly what causes it, it keeps racism going. We understand we have two fronts to fight. Now brother Stokley Carmichael deviated from the Party's political line to some extent while he was there and the Party was able to give a correct understanding to the many people we talked to about the correct line of the Party. His deviation from the line was many times directly related to some inferences about black rascism in the way he talked. Whereas the Southwest Africans and the African brothers were seeing the need for the masses not the governments necessarily, because the governments were tied up naturally with imperialism on one level or another throughout Europe, but the fact that the students - the peasants there opposed the capitalistic racist regimes of Europe. And by them doing this, it gives them the black Africans who are also part of the worldwide struggle of the peoples- the revolutionary struggle of the peoples, to reality down capitalism. And this is in essence what the Party was running down, and gave the information to the people. About Black America, of course it was black capitalism that we were opposed to, we also got the of course about myself, facing 10 years is prison when we came back. But that's all well and good and the fact that we understand that when we are attacked, more people come forth to understand and try to understand, and try to seek out the information from the Party and try to understand why we're attacked and the of the Party swell readily and fast when we have such attacks. Huey P. Newton was the major topic along with the Breakfast for Children that's spreading across the nation, that tirckey Dick Nixon doesn't like because of the fact that it's exposing the capitalistic system for what it is. That's socialism exposing capitalisim in a sense - in a sense - fact that's what it is, because the Breakfast for Children is very socialistic program. Free medicine in the Black community, through the Department of the Ministry of Health of the Black Panther Party is another thing that we talked about that we need to establish. We ran down to the people, the need for community control of the police in the Black community. We spoke to them also about the liberation schools in the evening where we will teach the youth about the class struggle, and teach them about Huey, and the need for the students and the people in Scandinavia or anywhere in Europe - Gernmany- what have you, Paris, etc. to stand and demonstrate in front of the American Embassies or what you have - if they want to - tear down the American Embassies in support of the fact that Huey P. Newton be set free - Huey P. Newton MUST be set free. What we have to do is go forth in unity and solidarity. We are already all in solidarity in the third would and it's time that the people, not the governments - understand the necessity of ending imperilalism, of ending racism, ending capitalism, and they under- stand that they're only part and parcel of the development of this kind. At ing that a violent revolutionary struggle is being waged in America, this is another thing that we ran down to the Scandinavian people. That there is, in fact a production going on, the organinzations that had a tendency just to sit down and read about Brother were just revolutionlist, but at the same time there were a bunch of good brothers there. The Black Panther Party established a committee for the third world people revolutionary struggle, Asia Africa and Latin America, and all the revolutionary fronts that's moving one level or another to end imperialism and try to get these organizations to understand that they must stand in solidarity along with - regardless of color or skin - we're not worried about skin, we've understood and told the people that it's a class struggle - the upper class exploiting and oppressing the lower class, the lower class that imperialism and capitalism created in the first place. So this is the way to summarize really what was ran down. Some of the other organizaitons such as Scan-SNCC. Scan-SNCC had been running around saying that they represented the Black Panther Party in the United States - we explained to the people that Scan-SNCC does not represent the Black Panther Party, Scan-SNCC cannot represent the Black Panther Party cause Scan-SNCC is a stock organization. It's run by one cat of two people that is, and as Sherman says it's his organization. He doesn't understand that all organizations have to be a people's organization.

BOBBY SEALE IN SWEDEN
The Black Panther Party's Minister of Education traveled to Cuba some months
back with the Deputy Minister of the state of New York chapter. They both traveled
there. And one of the things that really gave us some understanding of what
was happening and how to do things was, they explained about a smaller island
off the mainland of Cuba where on the mainland island off Cuba they were practicing
socialism and where on this island off the side, some number of people in the
thousands or more were trying to practice a true communist system. Now this
entails a lot for explanation; and I can't explain all of it. But the very idea
that, in the way it was set up, everything the people produced in their development
on this small island in trying to practice true communism went back to the people.
The State shared it equally and gave it back to the people through their whole
economic arrangement in trying to develop THROUGH PRACTICE true communism to
show the people on the mainland a practical example why they developed through
a process of socialism for some numbers of years, which will probably be, that
they could begin to understand even that money was really irrelevant, which
was one of the key things that really gave some meaning to what George had discovered.
He said the people go to work. And just to teach the people through some kind
of practice, he says, they even pay the people for doing the work on this island.
He says, but everybody gets everything they want and everything they produce.
He says, and they don't even use the money; it's just piling up in their pockets.
And that's the only introductory statement I got to say. But that, in fact,
a government with Fidel, as vague as it is, without any details, is putting
something into practice instead of just sitting down rhetorically talking about
it.
This is what inspired us putting together the Breakfast for Children, which is really a socialistic program, just one socialistic program out of many we'll have to develop by actually institutionalizing it and putting it together so that our people can learn socialism by example. Joseph Stalin said one time that our best weapon is example. The Breakfast for Children Program works like this here (in trying to get it off the ground and moving): the idea is to take one penny out of every dollar that that businessmen exploit from the people in the black community and give it back to the children. So the Black Panther Party goes to these many different businesses and tells them that, "We think you should donate to this Breakfast for Children Program. You're in the community; You're in the black community. You have a business here; you sell to black people. So we think you should donate." Some don't donate. Well we can destroy your business overnight, because once the older people find out that there's a business in the community somewhere that's not going to donate to the Breakfast for Children (71), they'll boycott 'em and run 'em out of business tomorrow. So naturally the businessman give up. So to speak, this one penny of goods is every dollar that he exploits from the community. We need a lot of other things to really put many other programs along that's connected with Breakfast for Children. But that's the concept; everything that we get is given back. We are taking back from the landlord class, the business owners, the avaricious businessman. And that program cannot really be attacked by the pig power structure, the avaricious businessman, the demogogue politician, and the pig police forces. It can't be attacked, you know, really ver ally in media, etc. Because once they attack that program, the people naturally relating to the fact that all children should have full stomachs in the morning before they go to school, even the white people in their white communities, etc. will readily say, "Well the government is really just in fact avaricious like the Black Panther Party is saying." We give the people the program. We want it to spread and flourish. When one of the programs gets kicked off, when one gets started, if it's an overcrowded amount of children, we don't have enough food we like to hold a press conference to let the people know we need more food; it's hell of a lot more children out here that's hungry and starving and should have full breakfasts in the morning before they go to school. So we put that into practice.
And Huey P. Newton put into practice the need for Point #7 by beginning to patrol the policemen. Now the contradictions have risen so high among the people and the police state, that it's easy to go forth there and get the people to vote on a proposition to take the power away from the police forces. We're going further with educational programs, but we're still going to deal with the police forces. The police attack us when we do this because they want to wipe us out and intimidate us and make us to become scared of them and not do this, and not do this revolutionary political work. But I'm going to sum up by saying simply that PRACTICE IS THE CRITERION OF THE TRUTH.

Chairman Seale & Masi Return to U.S.
March 24th, marked the return of Chairman Bobby Seale and Raymond "Masi"
Hewitt to the United States following an extended speaking tour throughout Europe.
The tour was sponsored by the revolutionary people in the Scandinavian countries
of western Europe, who have a desire to understand what Huey P. Newton and the
Black Panther Party is all about.
While on this tour, Bobby and Masi educated thousands of people to the evils of racism, capitalism, and cultural nationalism. They educated communist to communism, they educated Trotskites to Marxists, Leninism and Marxists Leninsts to Stalin.
Upon his return, Chairman Bobby Seale was indicted and charged with "planning" the Chicago riots, that were a part of the Democratic National Convention of 1968.
The people of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany and Denmark, were given the correct Black Panther ideology and it's aims and goals. The most important aspect of the brothers trip, was that it once again provided an avenue by which the revolutionary black people in America could reach some form of solidarity with other revolutionary people of the world.

GRAND JURY PROBE
WASHINGTON (LNS) -- Judge James H. Pugh has ordered the Montgomery County grand
jury to investigate the "subversive activities" of the Washington
Free Press.
According to the Washington Post, the Judge claimed that the underground paper "advocates the destruction of the state and the destruction between (sle) the schools of this county and the duly constituted law enforcement agencies thereof."
He instructed the jury to indict the staff, publishers and printers of the paper if they found a violation of Maryland law, which makes it a felony to attempt "any act intended to overthrow, destroy or alter, or to assist in the overthrow, destruction or alteration" of the start by "revolution, force or violence."

INDUCING & FORCING ARAB PEOPLE TO SURRENDER
To push the social-imperialist policy of expansion in the Middle East, stamp
out the raging flames of the people's revolutionary struggle there and enslave
the Arab people, the Soviet revisionist renegade clique has long been colluding
and at the same time contending with U.S. Imperialism in this area. It takes
counterrevolutionary "joint actions" with the U.S. Imperialists to
suppress the Arab people, acting as the biggest accomplice of U.S. Imperialism.
The large-scale U.S.-Israeli war of aggression against the Arab countries in 1967 was launched with the tacit consent and connivance of the Soviet revisionists. Brazenly playing the counter-revolutionary dual tactics, the Soviet renegades while verbally rendering support to the Arab people's "actions against aggression", actually collaborated closely with U.S. Imperialism. They worked zealously hand in glove with the U.S. Imperialists -- from diplomatic activities to political collaboration, from behind -the-scenes "dealings" to open "alliance", from the exchanges of secret envoys to the dialogue through the "hot line", etc. Together with U.S. Imperialism they manipulated the United Nations into forcing the Arab countries to "cease fire" under the situation that large areas of the Arab territory were occupied by Israel. The Soviet revisionist chieftan Kosygin even went to Glassboro personally to give advice to the them U.S. Imperialist boss Johnson and to devise secretly with him sinister plots for suppressing the revolutionary struggle of the Arab people.
Since a secret agreement was reached in Glassboro, U.S. Imperialism and Soviet Revisionism have stepped up in a big fanfare their efforts to cook up a big fraud on the "political settlement" of the Middle East question. Under the manipulation, the U.C. Security Council adopted a "resolution" on "solving" the Middle East question which was followed by a "seven-point program" put forward by U.S. Imperialism and a "five-point plan" by Soviet Revisionism. Although these "plan" and "program" are different informs, they are common in their counter-revolutionary character. All of them are aimed at peddling the "political settlement" fraud in a vain attempt to completely strangle the cause for liberation of Palestine, to stamp out the armed struggle of the Palestine people, to force the Arab countries to capitulate to the U.S. -Israeli aggressors, to establish joint U.S.-Soviet domination over the Middle East and to enslave the Arab people.
Around the time of Nixon's inauguration, the Soviet Revisionists were carrying out more energetically their sinister activities on the Middle East question. Meanwhile, the Nixon administration which has landed itself in an impasse is trying to "calm down" the "explosive" Middle East situation by striking a "package deal" on all-round collusion with the Soviet Revisionists. A "four power conference" for suppressing the Arab people's struggle is now being vigorously planned by the United States and the Soviet Union. As revealed by Nixon at a press conference several days ago, the Soviet Revisionists have already made a dirty deal with U.S. Imperialism on the Middle East question behind the back of the Arab people.

INDONESIA
(This article is reprinted from the Tricontinental, organ of OSPAAL -- The Organization
of the Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America.)
JAKARTA, Indonesia (INS) -- Even though the news from Indonesia does not always get front page coverage in the newspapers, the situation that the Indonesian people, oppressed by a fascist tyranny, continue to face, is alarmingly dramatic.
The anti-Communist regime headed by General Suharto has continued its policy of mass physical sectors of the country.
The number of persons - accused of membership in or collaboration with the Communist Party - who have been assassinated has reached more than a million.
Suharto, together with the reactionary general Nasution, assumed the real power in Indonesia at the end of September, 1965, reducing the then President Sukarno to a nominal role. Suharto has, since then, put into practice a policy of open submission to U.S. Imperialism.
In March, 1966, the militarist manuever against Sukarno was consummated, and he was removed from the positions he had held.
Suharto, who became President through reactionary means, stepped up the mass murders, the abuses and the jailings, opened the ports to foreign monopolies and returned to the landowners and national capitalists the property that had been nationalized.
In Indonesia, Imperialism has reversed the objectives of the nationalist government of Sukarno, converting the nation into a beach-head against the people of Southeast Asia.
In payment for this, the Suharto regime has received $312 million in "aid" this year, supplied by several capitalist governments, among them, of course, the United States and West Germany.
In spite of this "aid," all the regime's development plans have failed as a result of the embezzlement and misuse of public funds that has brought economic chaos to Indonesia.
The news agency, Antara, recently reported that the number of unemployed workers in Indonesia, by the end of the month of August, had reached 8,700,000 and pointed out that in July alone 12,000 workers had been fired from state enterprises.
According to Antara, one of the causes of increasing unemployment, is that the Indonesian market has been flooded with foreign products (which the people cannot buy). About 80 percent of the textile mills have closed down or cut back production, leaving 500,000 workers unemployed.
Regarding the situation in the countryside, where 80 percent of the population lives, it is noteworthy that a great number of peasants are constantly moving to the large cities in a vain attempt to find work to mitigate their hunger. The flow to Jakarta is so great that the agency describes it as "the world capital of vagabonds."
But while all this is happening, the vanguard in Indonesia is not remaining idle. Guerrilla movements organized by the Communist Party, (other progressive movements have been invited to join) and are operating in several areas of the country, including East Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Ambon Bali, and West and Central Kalimantan.
For the 105 million inhabitants of the Pacific Islands that make up the Indonesian archipelago, this is a time of suffering and hardship, but it is also a time of sustained anti-imperialist struggle which has the sympathy and support of the progressive forces of the world.

THIRD WORLD OUSTS PIG
The forces of "fascist pigism" were crushed as Colorado students along
with the Black Panther Party and various Black Student Unions of Colorado forced
pig lacky S.I. Hiakawa from the stage at Colorado University's Macky Auditorium
Monday evening. As Hiakawa began to speak pleas went up from some 200 blacks
in the audience to free Brother George Murray to which the son of a pig speaker
Hiakawa replied, "Shut up, you Nazi bastards," At this display of
asinine mentality, Third World forces not only reacted with obsenities directed
toward the pig puppet and the forces of which he represents, but with bottles
and steel folding chairs, which sent Hiakawa fleeing from the stage in fear
of his personal safety, under heavy pig protection. There are, however, repercussions
taking place in Colorado as a result of Third World activities. One such action
was the passing of a bill which outlaws any dissent on campus. This piece of
pig legislation was passed that following Wednesday. In addition to these outrageous
acts perpetrated by these racist Colorado dick-suckers was the arresting of
the many heroic Brothers, Sisters, and S.D.S members who they claim took part
in this so-called undemocratic and 'shocking display of ill-mannerism. However
defense funds have been set up to aid these brave individual and fortune is
with us, the revolutionary vanguard. We here in Colorado feel as we intensify
the struggle the pig shall fall to his knees and we the Panther Party shall
reign victorious. HAIL THE PEOPLE AND POWER TO THEM THROUGH THE PANTHER PARTY.

Los Angeles School
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (LNS) -- Los Angeles public schools, faced with a growing
student strike and stunned by sporadic outbursts of rebellion, are moving closer
to an open show down.
Following a student-police battle at Carver Junior High School, more than 20 junior high schools, high schools and junior colleges exploded. Students demanded an end to police occupation of the school grounds and buildings.
The situation grew out of a week-old strike at all-black Southwest Junior College in the Angeles' south side ghetto.
The recently-constructed junior college was hurried to completion last year when the community threatened to protest the school's basic misconception -- it's inability to fulfill the community's need for relevant, high quality education.
New Left Notes reports that the Black Student Union (BSU) at Southwest called a strike March 7, to demand a black studies program and an end to the school's racist practices.
Forty-one of the school's 64 teachers formed a racist caucus and refused to teach as long as they were "intimidated by the black students." The remaining teachers offered to teach Liberation Classes called by the students.
James Jones, a member of Southwest BSU, went to black Carver Junior High to speak at a BSU meeting. He intended to rally support for the Southwest strike. Carver's principal called the cops, who arrested Jones and charged him with "disrupting a school."
Following Jones' arrest, Carver students sat-in at the principal's office, protesting the arrest and demanding that Jones be released. The principal responded by calling in the police again.
Ten students between the ages of 12 and 14 were arrested. Many Carver students were clubbed and beaten. Two girls were hospitalized, one with a busted kidney, the other with a broken leg.
The following Sunday, March 9, a community meeting in south central Los Angeles drew more than 1,000 persons, who voted to call a strike of all city schools attended by black students.
At Los Angeles City College a hurriedly organized strike committee -- composed of delegates from BSU, SDS and United Mexican American Students (UMAS) -- called a support strike and threw up barricades around the college.
The Black Students Alliance, composed of all the city's Black Student Unions, issued a statement calling for the spread of the strike throughout the city and into white schools. Liberation schools, run by striking black students, were established in several communities.
At East Los Angeles City College hundreds of students marched from a support rally to the political science building calling, "On Strike, Shut it Down." Reports say thousands of dollars of damage was inflicted upon the building.
Virtually every school in the Los Angeles area has had some activity. Besides the three colleges mentioned above, there are strikes at Cal State, Domincus Hills, and Valley State College.
High schools in the city are striking, too. At Carver, only some 70 students are in class, and a majority of the teachers are supporting the strike.
Tensions continue to increase. On Wednesday, March 12, a 15- year-old black boy, Larry Kimmons, was shot and killed by a white campus cop at Pepperdine College. Kimmons had gone to the campus to play basketball.
Friday, March 14, a strike meeting was called by local black organizations at Victory Baptist Church. Among groups represented at the meeting were the Black Student Alliance, the Black Panthers, and US.
(US is a "porkchop nationalist" group, usually at ideological variance with the Panthers and BSU. US, led by Ron Karenga, was implicated in the shooting deaths of two Panthers a few months ago.)
During the meeting an argument erupted outside between Ronald Freeman, a Panther, and US members. When another Panther came to Freeman's aid, a melee ensued. Shots were fired, and Freeland was hit twice.
That night he was reported in critical condition and was undergoing surgery.
The Panthers held a community rally Saturday, March 15, to try Karenga for the two previous murders.

Judge White, Jury White, Prosecution White -- No Justice
On March 6, 1969, Jymbo Sudan, Lt. of information of the Black Panther Party
(Vallejo), faced the wrath of the racist power structure in the Municipal Court
on charges of threatening to do harm to school property, assault, fighting and
inciting fight, and maliciously, tumultously, and willfully disturbing the peace
and quiet of vanilla pig Joseph Hamilton, Solano College journalism instructor
on December 13th, by using obscene, profane and threatening language. All these
charges were an extension of harassments to put weight on, and consequently
lead to the conviction of 19 black students who took over a classroom containing
office machines that the administration refused to let them use, Sudan and Mark
Jefferson were singled out as the architects of the seizure. They were chairman
and vice-chairman of the Black Student Union at the time and have since been
expelled from college. The complaints were signed against Sudan after he and
Jefferson refused to let Hamilton have the only copy of a tape of a rally in
which they spoke. Jefferson offered to let Hamilton make a copy of it in his
presence. Pig Hamilton found later that he didn't have facilities to edit the
tape and volunteered the release of the tape to the BSU for an additional copy.
Kook Hamilton then high-tailed it to the administration and accused Jefferson
of robbing him of the tape. Hamilton also accused Sudan of threatening to kill
him and burn the school to the ground. Sudan and hammer-head Hamilton had earlier
been involved in an argument about slanderous, uncalled for remarks about Huey
P. Newton. Prosecuting the case was Deputy District Attorney, pig William L.
Mackey, who was flanked by the complaining witness and investigator, pig Roy
L. Conway. Conway is a so-called off-duty policeman attending the college who
just happens to be excused from classes whenever the BSU has some type of event.
In the outstart of the jury selection, the D.A. objected to the line of questioning of defense attorney K.H. Winters. Pig William Lackey Mackey argued the relevance that Winter's questions had on the selection of the jury. The questions that Winters asked of the prospective jurors were whether words such as "bullshit" and "fuck" would be so offensive that they wouldn't be able to think clearly in the case. He (Winters) also asked questions that were based on what attitudes white people have about black people, the Black Liberation Struggle, The Black Panther Party. Following Winters' rundown on why this line of questioning was used. Judge Jenson called both pig Mackey and defense attorney R.K. Winters into council chambers to resolve the argument. On returning, pig Mackey's objection was consequently over-ruled.
After going through about 25 prospective jurors, one of which was black and later eliminated, the trial began. Sudan, consequently, faced a racist camp of honkies which is nothing new to black people. Racist whites again took charge of affairs concerning the destinies of black people. Jury white, Judge White, prosecution white, and a half dozen pink half baked, pale faced, muddle headed, lying racist honkies as witnesses for the prosecution.
After the trial got underway, defense attorney R.K. Winters took charge after entering a motion to have all charges dropped because of certain technicalities. Judge Jenson then ordered a direct verdict of acquittal on all charges involving the rally, but the defendant would have to face charges involving the personal attack on pig Hamilton, meaning disturbing this fool's peace and quiet.
In the D.A.'s closing statements, he compared the black beret and black jacket with the black shirted mafia, and Huey P. Newton buttons with the swasticas of the racist Gestapo German dogs, implying that Huey P. Newton was no different than paper-tiger pig Hitler. D.A. pig Mackey used tricky closing arguments, saying such things as, "It's alright for blacks to break the law," and that, "That's what the black struggle is all about." He also added that it was alright for blacks to say, "Fuck the judge, fuck the jury, and fuck the United States." All this was done to play on the patriotic racist conscience of the jurists so that they would reverse his argument for a conviction. During the trial the Black Panther Party Program and the free Breakfast for Children Program was elaborated upon by Sudan. Pig Mackey stated that the program was feeding children a diet of "dry cereal, racism, and hate."
R.K. Winters, attorney from Benicia, then came on with his closing statements literally blowing the statements of pig Mackey down the throat of the jurors, chocking them with the real truth. He added that this all-white jury was supposed to be a representative of Jympo's peers, implying that white, upper middle class engineers, chemists, legal secretaries and friends of the pig power structure did not represent his peers. He stated that all the turmoil and problems that developed the heat of cage are caused by people who frame up or exclude the relevance of the Black Liberation Struggle. After R.K. Winters finished his statement, pig, kook William L. Mackey jumped to the floor again, saying, "You're damn right I want a convictional" After he finished vacillating here to the right and here to the left, oinking more obscenities about the defendant, Huey, and the Black Panther Party in general, the jury went out to deliberate. They stayed out about six hours, returning with a verdict of "guilty," That's justice.

CLASSES IN THE STREETS
I sold THE BLACK PANTHER newspaper in San Francisco last week on a downtown
street corner. It was early, just about rush hour. This was the time of day
when the petty-bourgeois and the comprador class of people leave the out-lying
areas (Berkeley hills, Piedmont, Castro Valley, Marin county) and rush madly
to San Francisco. They almost run over each other to get to work and put the
wheels in motion that will help the upper bourgeoisie further exploit and kill
the masses of the people.
As I walked up and down the streets, the peoples' streets, I could see in the eyes and faces of the pigs the idea that they owned the streets. I could see the proletariet, and in their eyes and faces, I could see "Right On." I could see the comprador and petty bourgeois class, and in their eyes and faces I could see stark out- and-out racism.
Among the petty bourgeoisie and comprador class, I could see the reactionary, the Chinese that Chairman out of China. I saw the Russian that Stalin would have shot or sent to Siberia; The very same Cuban that left Cuba with Batista or was later chased out by Che and Castro; There were the same Mexicans that Zapata sent his troops against to help free his people; the same people that the Hucks vamped on in the Phillipines. There were the house niggers that the Black Panther Party will deal with. There were the same avaricious fools and lackeys that helped to rape the masses of people in their own country and now have come to this country to help this imperialistic dog to rape the world.
These fools and running dogs will, if they don't stop the exploitation of the masses, meet the armed wrath of the masses of people!

VALLEJO CHAPTER STARTS BREAKFAST FOR CHILDREN
At last there's a program to feed little children a hearty meal every morning
in Country Club Crest. The Black Panther Party of Vallejo has successfully launched
their free breakfast for school children. The breakfast got off the ground March
17, 1969 with about 35 children and within the week the Party was serving about
110 little students. The Party received much support from local businessmen
and community people despite the stupidity of arch deceiving nigger preacher.
Reverend McGrue of 100 McGrue St., Vallejo. Leech McGrue tried to cut off the
program in the outstart by refusing to let hungry children use his church as
a place to hold the free breakfast. At present the Black Panther Party is holding
the breakfast at their headquarters. The Party has received much response concerning
the actions of this black avaricious leech and it is expected that the community
will soon move on this insane fool and declare his church liberated territory,
so that children can eat in a little more comfort and at a greater number.

PIG O'BRIEN ACQUITTED
The acquittal of Pig Michael O'Brien is very significant and as indicative of
the distorted values and corrupt morals of this American society, as the verdict
of Brother Huey.
The technical and legal evidence that was involved in this case is irrelevant. The only fact that a person needs to know is that George Baskett, a Black man is dead. Dead for no reason, and the person who is responsible for terminating his valuable life is free and will eventually return to his occupation. Professional killer of Black people and active participant in the task of total annihilation and genocide of Black people. Every individual that was on the jury should go to sleep at night acknowledging to himself that human life has no meaning to him. There is no way able to walk away free from that courtroom. O'Brien took upon himself that night, the role of judge and jurors and sentenced Brother Baskett to death.
Let it be known and fully understood that every injustice and murder that Third World brothers and sisters are victims of just increases and intensifies our solidarity. The difference between our solidarity and that of the Pig departments is that ours is for the benefit of people, not detrimental to their being. Every person that is in favor of the verdict of Pig O'Brien, especially O'Brien himself: Tell me you have PEACE OF MIND.

October 1966 Black Panther Party Platform and Program: What We Want What We
Believe
1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black Community.
We believe that black people will not be free until we are able to determine our destiny.
2. We want full employment for our people.
We believe that the federal government is responsible and obligated to give every man employment or a guaranteed income. We believe that if the white American businessmen will not give full employment, then the means of production should be taken from the businessmen and placed in the community so that the people of the community can organize and employ all of its people and give a high standard of living.
3. We want an end to the robbery by the white man of our Black Community.
We believe that this racist government has robbed us and now we are demanding the overdue debt of forty acres and two mules. Forty acres and two mules was promised 100 years ago as restitution for slave labor and mass murder of black people. We will accept the payment in currency which will be distributed to our many communities. The Germans are now aiding the Jews in Israel for the genocide of the Jewish people. The Germans murdered six million Jews. The American racist has taken part in the slaughter of over fifty million black people; therefore, we feel that this is a modest demand that we make.
4. We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings.
We believe that if the white landlords will not give decent housing to our black community, then the housing and the land should be made into cooperatives so that our community, with government aid, can build and make decent housing for its people.
5. We want education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history and our role in the present-day society.
We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowledge of self. If a man does not have knowledge of himself and his position in society and the world, then he has little chance to relate to anything else.
6. We want all black men to be exempt from military service.
We believe that Black people should not be forced to fight in the military service to defend a racist government that does not protect us. We will not fight and kill other people of color in the world who, like black people, are being victimized by the white racist government of America. We will protect ourselves from the force and violence of the racist police and the racist military, by whatever means necessary.
7. We want an immediate end to POLICE BRUTALITY and MURDER of black people.
We believe we can end police brutality in our black community by organizing black self-defense groups that are dedicated to defending our black community from racist police oppression and brutality. The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States gives a right to bear arms. We therefore believe that all black people should arm themselves for self-defense.
8. We want freedom for all black men held in federal, state, county and city prisons and jails.
We believe that all black people should be released from the many jails and prisons because they have not received a fair and impartial trial.
9. We want all black people when brought to trial to be tried in court by a jury of their peer group or people from their black communities, as defined by the Constitution of the United States.
We believe that the courts should follow the United States Constitution so that black people will receive fair trials. The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives a man a right to be tried by his peer group. A peer is a person from a similar economic, social, religious, geographical, environmental, historical and racial background. To do this the court will be forced to select a jury from the black community from which the black defendant came. 10. We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. And as our major political objective, a United Nations-supervised plebiscite to be held throughout the black colony in which only black colonial subjects will be allowed to participate, for the purpose of determining the will of black people as to their national destiny.
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. 10 POINT PROGRAM AND PLATFORM OF THE BLACK STUDENT UNIONS
We want an education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent
American society. We want an education that teaches us our true history and
role in the present day society.
We believe in an educational system that will give our people a knowledge of self. If a man does not have knowledge of himself and his position in society and the world, then he has little chance to relate to anything else.
1. WE WANT FREEDOM. WE WANT POWER TO DETERMINE THE DESTINY OF OUR SCHOOL.
We believe that we will not be free within the schools to get a decent education unless we are able to have a say and determine the type of education that will affect and determine the destiny of our people.
2. WE WANT FULL ENROLLMENT IN THE SCHOOLS FOR OUR PEOPLE.
We believe that the city and federal government is responsible and obligated to give every man a decent education.
3. WE WANT AN END TO THE ROBBERY BY THE WHITE MAN OF OUR BLACK COMMUNITY.
We believe that this racist government has robbed us of an education. We believe that this racist capitalist government has robbed the Black Community of its money by forcing us to pay higher taxes for less quality.
4. WE WANT DECENT EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES, FIT FOR THE USE OF STUDENTS.
We believe that if these businessmen will not give decent facilities to our community schools, then the schools and their facilities should be taken out of the hands of these few individual racists and placed into the hands of the community, with government aid, so the community can develop a decent and suitable educational system.
5. WE WANT AN EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE THAT TEACHES US HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE PRESENT DAY SOCIETY.
We believe that if the educational system does not teach us how to survive in society and the world it loses its meaning for existence.
6. WE WANT ALL RACIST TEACHERS TO BE EXCLUDED AND RESTRICTED FROM ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
We believe that if the teacher in a school is acting in racist fashion then that teacher is not interested in the welfare or development of the students but only in their destruction.
7. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE. WE WANT ALL POLICE AND SPECIAL AGENTS TO BE EXCLUDED AND RESTRICTED FROM SCHOOL PREMISES.
We believe that there should be an end to harasment by the police department of Black people. We believe that if all of the police were pulled out of the schools, the schools would become more functional.
8. WE WANT ALL STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN EXEMPT, EXPELLED, OR SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL TO BE REINSTATED.
We believe all students should be reinstated because they haven't received fair and impartial judgment or have been put out because of incidents or situations that have occured outside of the schools authority.
9. WE WANT ALL STUDENTS WHEN BROUGHT TO TRIAL TO BE TRIED IN STUDENT COURT BY A JURY OF THEIR PEER GROUP OR STUDENTS OF THEIR SCHOOL.
We believe that the student courts should follow the United States Constitution so that students can receive a fair trial. RULES OF THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY: CENTRAL HEADQUARTERS OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA
Every member of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY throughout this country of racist America
must abide by these rules as functional members of this party. CENTRAL COMMITTEE
members. CENTRAL STAFFS, and LOCAL STAFFS, including all captains subordinate
to either national, state, and local leadership of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY will
enforce these rules. Length of suspension or other disciplinary action necessary
for violation of these rules will depend on national decisions by national,
state or state area, and local committees and staffs where said rule or rules
of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY WERE VIOLATED.
Every member of the party must know these verbatum by heart. And apply them daily. Each member must report any violation of these rules to their leadership or they are counter-revolutionary and are also subjected to suspension by the BLACK PANTHER PARTY.
THE RULES ARE:
1. No party member can have narcotics or weed in his possession while doing party work.
2. Any party member found shooting narcotics will be expelled from this party.
3. No party member can be DRUNK while doing daily party work.
4. No party member will violate rules relating to office work, general meetings of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY, and meetings of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY ANYWHERE.
5. No party member will USE. POINT. or FIRE a weapon of any kind unnecessarily or accidentally at anyone.
6. No party member can join any other army force other than the BLACK LIBERATION ARMY.
7. No party member can have a weapon in his possession while DRUNK or loaded off narcotics or weed.
8. No party member will commit any crimes against other party members or BLACK people at all, and cannot steal or take from the people, not even a needle or a piece of thread.
9. When arrested BLACK PANTHER MEMBERS will give only name, address, and will sign nothing. Legal first aid must be understood by all Party members.
10. The Ten Point Program and platform of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY must be known and understood by each Party member.
11. Party Communications must be National and Local.
12. The 10-10-10-program should be known by all members and also understood by all members.
13. All Finance officers will operate under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance.
14. Each person will submit a report of daily work.
15. Each Sub-Section Leader Section Leader. Lieutenant, and Captain must submit Daily reports of work.
16. All Panthers must learn to operate and service weapons correctly.
17. All Leadership personnel who expel a member must submit this information to the Editor of the Newspaper, so that it will be published in the paper and will be known by all chapters and branches.
18. Political Education Classes are mandatory for general membership.
19. Only office personnel assigned to respective offices each day should be there. All others are to sell papers and do Political work out in the community, including Captains, Section Leaders, etc.
20. COMMUNICATIONS -- all chapters must submit weekly reports in writing to the National Head quarters.
21. All Branches must implement First Aid and/or Medical Cadres.
22. All Chapters. Branches, and components of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY must submit a monthly Financial Report to the Ministry of Finance, and also the Central Committee.
23. Everyone in a leadership position must read no less than two hours per day to keep abreast of the changing political situation.
24. No chapter or branch shall accept grants, poverty funds, money or any other aid from any government agency without contacting the National Headquarters.
25. All chapters must adhere to the policy and the ideology laid down by the CENTRAL COMMITTEE of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY.
26. All Branches must submit weekly reports in writing to their respective Chapters.

3 MAIN RULES OF DISCIPLINE

SOUL ON ICE?
Eldridge Cleaver made the decision to politically exile himself November 27th,
on the basis that the Adult Authority made an outlaw decision, and that he has
been denied his constitutional right to due process of law.
The revocation of Cleaver's parole was illegal, because no parole violation was committed.
The Adult Authority parole board has tried to maintain that Cleaver violated his parole by having a rifle in this possession, and by associating with individuals of bad reputation. This contention, we will show, is false. The Adult Authority version contradicts the Superior Court order itself:
"… Cleaver's only handling of a firearm (the rifle) was in obedience to a police command. He did not handle a hand gun at all. There was nothing one way or the other to show a conspiracy or a situation calling for the application of the doctrine of aiding and abetting. Hence, nothing supported either the possession of a firearm or the assault charge.
As to the charge of association with individuals of bad reputation, the report indicated that two or three of those named had "police records," but nothing to show whether any had been convicted of anything, or whether Cleaver knew of their arrest record." (Superior Court e.t. 137, 138, 140, 141.)
Parolee Cleaver was denied due process of law by being denied opportunity to present his case.
Why was Cleaver returned to prison as a parole violator if documented evidence to the contrary had been presented in his defense? To answer that question, one must examine the Adult Authority. This board has the right to arbitrarily revoke or suspend parole on any individual. At the same time, the Adult Authority maintains -- falsely -- that Cleaver has the opportunity to defend himself at a hearing. This is how it works:
"A parolee is served with violation charges, is interviewed, is given a hearing (before the Adult Authority itself, the charging party) at which the parolee may `plead' to the parole violation charges, and is afforded an opportunity to present his defense."
"At the `hearing' a parolee is denied the right to counsel, may not have an independent and impartial officer to conduct the hearing and make decision." (Petition for Hearing in the Supreme Court, p. 17)
Not only does the Adult Authority hold secret hearings, but it also refuses to notify persons under its jurisdiction of its procedures, or of its variable definitions of what constitutes a parole violation. This secrecy and vagueness is in direct violation of federal law which requires agencies to publish their procedures "for guidance of the public."
"Petitioner (Cleaver) is immediately and seriously prejudiced by the Adult Authority's unlawful refusal to publish its regulations, since he is to be imprisoned by virtue of an action which the Adult Authority still seeks to garb in this `veil of secrecy.' (Petition for Hearing in the Supreme Court, p. 12)
Yes, the Adult Authority acted unjustly and illegally. Its decision was an outlaw decision. Cleaver had no chance of obtaining "justice" from these Star Chamber proceedings. Why then wouldn't the U.S. Supreme Court hear Cleaver's case? There are, we believe, three reasons why the case wasn't accepted. The first is that any fair minded court would obviously have released Cleaver, thereby setting a precedent. The second is that thousands of cases of alleged parole violation from all over California and other states would be subject to reversal. Thirdly, the illegal functioning of the Adult Authority would come under attack. The U.S. Supreme Court just couldn't afford to consider the Cleaver case during this turbulent period.
Eldridge Cleaver is a victim of naked, shameless political persecution. As Judge Sherwin puts it:
"…The uncontradicted evidence presented to this court indicated that the petitioner had been a model parolee. The peril to his parole status stemmed from no failure of personal rehabilitation, but from his undue eloquence in pursuing political goals, goals which were offensive to many of his contemporaries. Not only was there absence of cause for the cancellation of parole, it was the product of a type of pressure unbecoming, to say the least, to the law enforcement paraphernalia of this state."
Cleaver is in political exile because a man of his convictions cannot get justice
here. Indeed, if we are to give more than lip service to the concepts of freedom
and justice we must support him. The work to get him discharged from parole
must continue. An intense publicity campaign is necessary now to bring to the
public the legal defense and arguments which were carried to the courts with
no satisfaction. We must all work together to focus attention of this case.
This is not an issue of one man's freedom, but a broad struggle which affirms
the right of all of us to speak out politically in this country. If Cleaver
is not allowed his freedom, it is just a matter of time until all our freedoms
are further reduced. His is not a personal struggle but a political one. SPONSORS

BLACK PEOPLE: KEEP YOUR GUNS
CALIFORNIA AND FEDERAL GUN LAWS
This article is to serve as a guide for the members of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY and is not to be construed as a substitute for competent legal counsel.
12001 -- A concealable firearm is any firearm having a barrel less than 12 inches in length.
12025 -- Any person caught with a concealable firearm CONCEALED on their person or within any vehicle is guilty of a misdemeanor.
12026 -- No license is required for any citizen 18 years or over to keep a legal weapon in their home or place of business, (Some weapons require federal registration.)
12027 -- Persons exempt from Section 12025 includes members of any club or organization organized for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets upon established target ranges, whether public or private, while such members are using firearms upon such target ranges, or while going to and from such ranges.
12031 -- Except as provided in subdivision (b), every person who carries a loaded firearm on his person or in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in any incorporated city or in any public place or on any public street in a prohibited area of unincorporated territory is guilty of a misdemeanor.
(b) Persons who are using target ranges for the purpose of practice shooting with a firearm, or who are members of shooting clubs while hunting on the premises for such clubs.
(c) In order to determine whether or not a firearm is loaded, pigs are authorized to examine any firearm carried by anyone on his person or in a vehicle while in any public place. Refusal to allow a pig to inspect a firearm constitutes probable cause for arrest.
(h) Nothing in this section is intended to preclude the carrying of any loaded firearm, under circumstances where it would be otherwise be lawful, by a person who reasonably believes that the person or property of himself or another is in immediate danger and that the carrying of such a weapon is necessary for the preservation of such person or property.
(i) Nothing in this section shall prevent any person from having a loaded weapon, if it is otherwise lawful, at his place of residence, including any temporary residence or campsite.
12552 -- Every person who furnishes any firearm, air gun, or gas-operated gun, designed to fire a bullet, pellet or metal projectile, to any minor under the age of 18 years, without the expressed or implied permission of the parent or legal guardian of the manor, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
12560 -- Any felon who owns, has in his possession or under his custode or control any firearm is punishable by imprisonment in the State Prison not exceeding 15 years, or in a county jail not exceeding one year and/or by a fine not exceeding $500.
FEDERAL LAW
(1)Title X of the Civil Rights Act provides that anyone who demonstrates, manufacturers, transports, or teaches the use of firearms, explosives, or incendiary devices for use in riots or civil disorders may be imprisoned for up to 5 years and fined $10,000.
(2) Title VII of the Crime Control Act states that felons, veterans discharged other than honorably, mental incompetent, aliens illegally in the United States, or former U.S. citizens who have renounced their citizenship, who possess, receive, or transport interstate any firearm may be punished by a fine of $10,000.
(3) The National Firearm Act requires that a $200 tax be paid on each transfer of any fully automatic firearm, rifles with barrels under 16 inches, shotguns with barrels under 18 inches, any rifle or shotgun under 26 inches overall, or silencers. The Act also requires that the $200 tax be paid on the making of any firearm that meets the specifications listed above.
THE FOLLOWING LAWS BECAME EFFECTIVE ON DECEMBER 16, 1968
(1) Only a licensed manufacturer or dealer may ship or transport interstate any firearm (other than a rifle or a shotgun) or any ammunition to anyone but a licensed dealer or manufacturer. (Licensed importers may also ship and receive all firearms and ammunition interstate.)
(2) No one but a licensed dealer, manufacturer, or importer may receive in his state of residence any firearm (other than a rifle or shotgun) that has been obtained by him outside his state of residence.
(3) Only a licensed dealer, manufacturer, or importer may give, trade, transfer, transport, or deliver any firearm (other than a rifle or shotgun to anyone living in another state.)
(4) To receive or transport into any state a firearm that cannot be legally purchased in that state is a federal offense.
(5) Only a licensed dealer, importer, or manufacturer may ship or transport in interstate commerce any fully automatic weapon or any sawed-off shotgun or rifle.

POCKET LAWYER OF LEGAL FIRST AID
This pocket lawyer is provided as a means of keeping black people up to date
on their rights. We are always the first to be arrested and the racist police
forces are constantly trying to pretend that rights are extended equally to
all people. Cut this out, brothers and sisters, and carry it with you. Until
we arm ourselves to righteously take care of our own, the pocket lawyer is what's
happening.
1. If you are stopped and/or arrested by the police, you may remain silent; you do not have to answer any questions about alleged crimes, you should provide your name and address only if requested (although it is not absolutely clear that you must do so.) But then do so, and at all time remember the fifth amendment.
2. If a police officer is not in uniform, ask him to show his identification. He has no authority over you unless he properly identifies himself. Beware of persons posing as police officers. Always get his badge number and his name.
3. Police have no right to search your car or your home unless they have a search warrant, probable cause or your consent. They may conduct no exploratory search, that is, one for evidence of crime generally or for evidence of a crime unconnected with the one you are being questioned about. (Thus, a stop for an auto violation does not give the right to search the auto.) You are not required to consent to a search; therefore, you should not consent and should state clearly and unequivocally that you do not consent, in front of witnesses if possible. If you do not consent, the police will have the burden in court of showing probably cause. Arrest may be corrected later.
4. You may not resist arrest forcibly or by going limp, even if you are innocent. To do so is a separate crime of which you can be convicted even if you are acquitted of the original charge. Do not resist arrest under any circumstances.
5. If you are stopped and/or arrested, the police may search you by patting you on the outside of your clothing. You can be stripped of your personal possessions. Do not carry anything that includes the name of your employer or friends.
7. Do not engage in "friendly" conversation with officers on the way to or at the station. Once you are arrested, there is little likelihood that anything you say will get you released.
8. As soon as you have been booked, you have the right to complete at least two phone calls -- one to a relative, friend or attorney, the other to a bail bondsman. If you can, call the Black Panther Party, 845-0103 (845-0104), and the Party will post bail if possible
9. You must be allowed to hire and see an attorney immediately.
10. You do not have to give any statement to the police, nor do you have to sign any statement you might give them, and therefore you should not sign anything. Take the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, because you cannot be forced to testify against yourself.
11. You must be allowed to post bail in most cases, but you must be able to pay the bail bondsmen's fee. If you cannot pay the fee, you may ask the judge to release you from custody without bail or to lower your bail, but he does not have to do so.
12. The police must bring you into court or release you within 48 hours after your arrest (unless the time ends on a week-end or a holiday, and they must bring you before a judge the first day court is in session.)
13. If you do not have the money to hire an attorney, immediately ask the police to get you an attorney without charge.
14. If you have the money to hire a private attorney, but do not know of one, call the National Lawyers' Guild or the Alameda County Bar Association (or the Bar Association of your county) and furnish you with the name of an attorney who practices criminal law.

BREAKFAST FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
OAKLAND, California -- The National Advisory Cabinet to the Black Panther Party
is working with and for St. Augustine Episcopal Church's program: breakfast
in the morning for Oakland's school children in the black community.
All children in grammar schools and growing young adults in Junior High Schools can receive free, FULL BREAKFASTS in the mornings before they go to school. The first of there breakfasts will exist one hour before school hours at St. Augustine's Church, 27th and West, and the Black Community Center, at 42nd and Grove Streets, EVERY SCHOOL MORNING.
The National Advisory Cabinet and church members are calling on all mothers and others who want to work with this revolutionary program of making sure that our young have full stomachs before going to school. The schools and the Board of Education should have had this program instituted a long time ago. How can our children learn anything when most of their stomachs are empty? Black people in the Black Community-mothers, welfare recipients, grandmothers, guardians, and others who are trying to raise children in the black community where racists oppress us- are asked to come forth to work and support this needed program. Soul food: grits, eggs, bread, and meat for the stomachs is where it's at when it comes to properly preparing our children for education. LET'S DO IT NOW. Support this community program.

Interested persons may also contact Ruth Backford Smith at 893-8211 or sign up with other community peoples and citizens for full stomachs and better education of black children.
We urge as many mothers and other black citizens as possible to unite with this COMMUNITY-BLACK PANTHER PROGRAM. We are also asking all businesses throughout the black community to donate the necessary food and utensils to prepare the foods for our children. Call the Black Panther Office at 845-0103 or 845-0104. Everything of value donated to BREAKFAST FOR CHILDREN is tax deductable. Items or funds may be sent c/o St. Augustine Episcopal Church. Just let us know, both black and white communities and citizens, what you can donate in money, time, etc.
